Hey all.  My sister gave our show calves (to be shown in less than a week) their booster vaccines a couple of weeks ago (I believe) sub-Q and they are still swollen.  The sites are about the size of a golf ball.  I think that some vaccines will swell regardless, but Im not sure if they are swollen because of trauma to the site during injectiion, or because its normal?  Is this normal?  I believe it was a 7 or 8 way vaccine.  Is there anything we can do to improve the appearances of these bumps for the show?  Would hate to have 4 calves that have matching welts on their necks.

On 7 way that is normal. I have even had one feedlot buyer tell me that he likes to see the knot because that way he knows they have been vaccinated. Hate to say it but it usually takes a month for it to go down.

Go get a horse liniment...absorbine,refreshment,etc... Once the calf is compltely dry rub some of that stuff onto the knot...
DO NOT put water on the calf after the linement is put on wait atleast 3-4 hours b4 putting water on the site..Does not need
to be rinsed out..It seemed to work good for my friends calf..
