Got a 15yr old daughter and she still gets really nervous.  Been doing this at Denver and county fairs for 7yrs.  Give calf 10 melatonin and kid 3.  LOL

Peer pressure gets a lot of things accomplished.  My nephew was scared to death of the cattle, had no interest at all in showing until my niece turned 7 and started showing, within the next 2 months he all of a sudden decided he would like to show also.  The teaching idea was great, or just someone that your daughter looks up to that could give her some encouragement.

itk, I know just how you feel.  We started Logan off on the wrong foot, he had won Jr. National's before he was able to even show in 4-H, he came right on the heals of Tony so it wasn't like he had to start from scratch.  I remember the 1st time he stood last in a class he looked over at me like he wasn't sure what to do, there must be some mistake.  I think part of learning to win is learning to lose, hard for the parents to live through, but I think it is a necessary step for the kids to develop healthy self esteem, you don't always win and it isn't personal, that's just how life works.

My daughter drives me crazy right before she shows. She gets so intense that if you say anything wrong she burst out in tears and believe me it does not take much to make her cry. After she is done showing she always has the worst head aches so I have learned to give her some tylonal before she shows to help with the head aches but I still don't have a solution with the crying. She is not afaid of showing or the calves its she she is so competitive that she gets so intense. She does a great job showing I just wish she could relax during a show. It can be very embarrassing for me and I know people talk about her because of it. She is 12 and this is her fifth year showing and the best thing I can do to help her out is not say much and let her work it out herself and that seems to help. Some kids are very emotional when it comes to competition.
