LaGrand Reload 80P ET-polled, UPS TCC Nitro 1ET-polled, UPS Odyssey-horned, GH Neon 17N-horned, DM BR L1 Domino 146-polled.  These are the ones I think do the best job with what you're lookin for.  What are you breeding them too?

nothing yet.. just in learning process...  and pedigree searches...  still have your heifer in my mind though.. but unfortunately, that's where it stops...  (lol)

A very well respected evaluator of livestock told me that Reload was the best Herf bull he ever laid eyes on- while in the judging contest @ Denver as a 2 yo.  How has he been breeding in the last 2 or 3 years since that sighting?  If I recall, he was a super stout, sound, thick rascal!

In my opinion he is the best option out there right now for thick, stylish, big hipped, big boned calves.  We have a son out of him and his first calf crop was last year and they were the best ones of the group.

What kind of birth weights does he (LaGrand) tend to throw. I have a cow due early spring with her third calf and am thinking of using him. Her numbers ce +1.7, bw +2.6, ww 38, yw 56. She has not thrown an extremely large calf so far. Her last heifer was just slightly above average but nothing of concern.I have heard numerous times he is not a safe choice for heifers, so I didn't know if anyone has had trouble using him on cows.

had someone tell me that you can paper steer calves as long as their sired by a registerd bull!  Does this work visa-versa as well- with a papered cow??

I dont think it works like that. When I went to get a steer certificate last year, I had to have a sire and dam registration number. Maybe things have changed, but that was just last year.

I am pretty sure you can have 50% steers. but they gotta look like herefords. i iknow at national level 3 guys stand out side the scales. if they say it dont look herford type it dont show.

What's the herf bulls that are creating huge boned, thick, good hipped offspring?  Polled or horned, doesn't matter.. Maybe lean towards horned!

When it comes to huge bone I think CH ENUFF PROPHET 2913 needs to be in the conversation.

His progeny, especially heifers, have been very successful recently.

I really liked Nitro in Kansas City, but Mullinex suggested that if you are going to use him, to use him on big footed cows.

I also like Reload and Domino 146.

Has anyone seen CRR ABOUT TIME 743 in person?  I haven't, but my mom has a couple of cows breed to him that should calve this spring.

If you are shooting for show steers I would not use Enuff--probably too big mature frame size. Reload and 146 both need to be used on deep, big ribbed cows that are super sound. Nitro can sure give them a cool look--not massive bone and thickness, but sure adequate, especially for breeding cattle. As of now you have to buy a $2500 semen package to use him. I have seen About Time a few times--he's a good bull, but he will not make them monster thick and huge boned. He will likely be the easiest calving bull of those mentioned above.        If you can live with some birth weight DB Hard Drive may work as well as any to add bone and thickness.    Of course these are just my opinions, but we have looked at alot of Hereford calves in the last few years--just ask my wife and kids!  LOL

Steers HAVE to be PUREBRED to be REGISTERED. There is no half hereford that you can register as a purebred.

I need a bit more than a common name on some of these bulls.. and where it is I can purchase semen from>..  To be honest, I don't know enough about the Herf breed yet- to follow your lingo!!  I'm working on it...

thanks to all who contributed..

PLKR-
You are right on, I hadn't thought about Enuff's frame size.  I assume his son DELHAWK CAPITAL 0810 is also large framed?
Also, you are spot on the Reload and 146 suggestions.  Those are definitely the kind of cows GKB and Coylers have breed BR L1 Domino 146 to.  But, if you do have those type of cows, Reload and 146 work very well.

I don't want to hyjack this post but will these same bulls work as well when used on Angus or Angus based cows? If not who would you suggest to use? I guess we are just wanting to make some baldy females for F1's and very saleable steers.
