mix and match the reds and browns of sullivans. some combination should work. not many hereford people do any painting its just too hard. even at jr nationals they don't paint, except maybe the white socks.

We usually use both crimson and auburn from sullivans.  If we paint. Its hard you need to be prepared to have cardboard or something to keep it off the white too.

I personally prefer the weaver paint, especially the fawn and the cinnamon. There is also a line of stains from Michael's craft stores that works really well as a finishing coat if you have a really strange shade, especially the lighter orange. Painting herfs is a bit more of a challenge than some other breeds, but I've painted a lot of them and basically everyone I know paints red if it needs it.

The new weaver line of paints is awesome, lots of variety.  The cinnamon or fawn are what I use, depending on the shade of red of the Hereford.

Thanks for the options. I don't plan on painting him completely. There are just a few spots where he got a manure pack on his upper back leg/ rump a while ago, and when cleaning him, it took off some hair in a few spots almost looking like ring worm, which I want to touch up. It won't be a full job of mixing and matching.
Thanks everyone!

I still like the spray stains for the herf reds the best. The weaver paint knocks down the glue on a humid day. Sullivans seems more  of a match for horns and limos . On the white I love the sullivan white touch up.great product that looks natural and hair like. Not a fan of weaver white ,way to fake looking of a off bright white.

I second the Weaver paint! I was at a Kirk Stierwalt fitting demo and I wanted to hug Kirk when he said he'd come out with paint specifically designed to match Hereford hair. There's nothing worse than using an off-color wrong paint and not being able to fix it! Use Fawn, Cinnamon or a combination of both, depending on your animal.

Jsuhr one thing I have had success with in just painting spots on herfs (esp the dark red ones) is to put betadine on the spot starting about a week or two out from the show. It gradually darkens the spot and you can control where the betadine lands.
