I think it kinda depends what age you are shooting for.

If you are looking for a calf to compete at a state fair or a summer show my first stop would be purple reign cattle company in IL or Hoffman Ranch in NE. They both have raised numerous national winners in both the steer show and heifer shows. Another place to look would be Barber Ranch in Texas and they might have more fall babies to pick from.

I'm sure if you just keep your eyes open and be patient you could find plenty of good deals at some clubby sales in the fall.

These guys all raise purebred, registered herefords. While they all have produced some very good cattle, there may be other folks that specialize more in cattle that type hereford, but aren't necessarily purebred, registered herfs. I'm sure there are a number of people, especially in OK and TX, that have breeding programs geared specifically towards what you are looking for. Someone on here should be able to give you some specific names, I would think.

Are you familiar with CES Polled Herefords at Wadley, Georgia?  Mr. Smith and Kyle & Jennifer Gillooly run a large herd of stout cattle--at our local fair there have been very impressive steers and heifers from CES.  [email protected]

Brian Martin has a couple of good herfs in his bid off.  Saw them recently, pretty cool
