I saw this calf last June and he had the"look" of a future herd sire then and it appears he is developing nicely (thumbsup)

I also saw this guy in early August and he certainly still looks great. He could work most anywhere, and I expect he will be tough to get around at the fall shows.

I thought it was a really strong set of breds, some of them bred to Saskvalley Primo 40P and some bred to the Australian bull, KAMILAROI MEAT PACKER.
With the progress being made in the Australian shorthorn industry he makes a very exciting service sire.

I'm not putting all livestock photographers down but the practice of altering pictures is becoming a problem I think.

I was impressed with the entire sale offering. They are a solid set of cattle. The calves from Distinction looks very good. Looks to me that he is going to be a very good breeding bull!

Justintime have you personally seen the sale offering? Or, are you commenting based on the electronic pictures being promoted? Thanks

Yes I have seen the sale cattle and all the rest of the cattle at Hill Haven. I flew to Toronto on July 30th and spent a day going through the herd. They have put together a very good set of sale cattle and they have dug deep to offer their best. I personally think some of these cattle are even better than their pictures suggest. There are some females available in this sale that you can build a breeding program around.

Justintime, Not trying to be confrontational here but may I ask if you are working for hill haven and representing them for compensation?
I think it's important to be transparent and it is a fair question based on your unbridled recommendation of their cattle. Thank you.

No I am not working for Hill Haven. I will be attending their sale, and will be representing the Canadian Shorthorn Report, as I am the Editor. My main job in life is my farm, and I also enjoy producing the breed magazine in Canada. In my honest opinion, I was very impressed with the sale offering. They are an excellent set and they are not just selling off the ones they don't want to keep themselves.
I will be listed in the sale catalog as a representative, but that is only so anyone who cannot attend the sale, can contact me and I will give them my honest appraisal. Nothing more or less. I have no desire to make part of my living as a sale consultant or representative but I do enjoy seeing other herds and visiting with other breeders.
I travel to many sales throughout Canada and the US but I do not work for anyone but myself. Travelling to see other breeder's cattle and to their sales is the best way I know to see what is happening in the breed.

Meatpacker semen is available in the US and has been for several months. Contact Adam Donnelly, in Wisconsin or Bollum Family Shorthorns in Minnesota and they can give you more information.

I am looking forward to having quite a few Meat Packer calves in 2016. There are some females bred to Meatpacker in the Hill Haven sale and I think there is some embryo lots as well.

You may not be trying to be confrontational, but you are sure coming off that way. I think Hill Haven has some outstanding cattle and they are some outstanding people.

Doc, I sincerely respect your view and your loyalty to a fellow breeder but I don't think it was unfair to ask if the photos have been electronically cropped or altered. It's becoming a worrisome trend I think.  And Justintime is obviously a very honest man and was classy to tolerate my direct question. It wasn't meant to disrespect him and he wasn't the least bit defensive either.  I don't think it's inappropriate to ask if someone has a financial stake or interest when they openly promote auction sales in a public forum. Justintime isn't going to say the cattle look good if they don't.
