Anyone having or have had the problem I am having with a hired man heifer mothering up to her baby. She is a real gentle thing just leaves her baby. So I locked hem up in a pen together, hopefully that will help

We had to section a first calf heifer this year. She did not know what to do with the baby and til she cleaned. Then she would clean her and then she would allow her to sneak up behind and eat. Sometimes she would get alittle rough with her but now two weeks later of being shut up together they have bonded pretty good. Sometimes it takes time with the first one.

If your questioning whether the Hired Man calves tend to do this, no I dont think so. We just had one this year that didnt have a problem.

im sure shell eventually be fine! we had a first time heifer that had absolutly no intrest in her calf we brought them to the barn and after 3 days of milking the cow and feeding a bottle she took the calf!! if they get seperated nothing will stop her from getting to her baby now! shell run just to get to that baby if it makes a noise! so just give her time and if shes not letting it nurse then if u have a cute put the cow n there and let the calf nurse eventually shelkl get use to it  (clapping)
