Okay, our weigh-in for our county fair is in one week (2-14). A fellow exhibitor's steer weighed as of yesterday about 950 pounds. However, that is the maximum allowed weight. How would you keep your steer at that weight? I know that it's cutting it pretty close, but any suggestions?

Shrink him.  No feed or water 2-3 days prior to Weigh Day.  I beliieve Sullivans has products that will help increase the shrink as well.  A couple days of shrink and you should be fine.  Be careful getting them back on feed afterwards.  Don't just shove it to them.  Give him feed 4-5 times a day in small batches to get him adjusted back to full feed.

Good Luck,

If he was full at 950 you have no concern. Off feed 2 or 3 days would be extreme. I would feed him half feed day before n take him off water that night. Trailer ride will take off a lot. Now if you need certain weight gain for your shows that's a different story.
