Home raised herd bulls

The bull in the tall grass is Oakview General, a son of Diamond Zulu 3Z r.  The spring calves sired by him are truly outstanding.  The roan bull in the lot is Oakview Leader 9-18, a grandson of Leader 9th and Deerpark Leader 18th.  He is most likely the most consistently easy calving bull we've used and the calves have quite a bit more eye appeal than those out of his sire.  I'll try to post some photos of the calves by each bull as soon as I can. 

Lonnie, The bulls look real good. Can't see the sheath on the upper one, but other than that he looks like a real bull. The bottom looks real solid , just a little too much sheath for me. Definitely nice job raising them.

I have to agree with Doc on the bulls. I really like the looks of the General bull and the other bull looks pretty typical of a calving ease bull. I would love to see some daughters of the General bull. I bet they have some look!!

That Zulu son sure looks like his daddy did at that age.

General is just a notch smaller framed and deeper ribbed than his sire.  The Zulu daughters I have are great mother cows.  There are 3 spring bull calves by General that I would be happy using myself as herd bulls.  General does have a little more sheath than I would like, but he's very difficult to fault otherwise.  There are some awesome heifers by him both here and in Illinois with the cows Wayne Temple kept while I was recovering from some health issues last spring.  Leader 9-18 has worked worked extremely well on the Zulu daughters.  I have 3 very young bull calves from that cross that would fit almost anywhere.  Most of the heifer calves by him are at Wayne's.  Leader 9-18 is very clean sheathed.  Maybe I can get a side profile photo that shows better.  The grandkids did a pretty good taking cell phone photos.  Maybe some day I can figure out how to do that!

They both look good, but I sure like that 918 bull for his intended purpose. I bet he leaves some nice usable daughters behind on top of the calving ease.

Since I'm logged on......I used 3 homegrown bulls on my cows this summer. One Loving bull.

Both bulls are excellent bulls and you should be commended for raising two bulls this good. As for which one is the best, I think I want to reserve judgment until I could see them in person. I have driven a lot of miles over the years because of a picture. Don't take me wrong, as I think these are both excellent bulls. I just think I would want to see them with my own eyes before I made a decision.

You should also be commended for realizing what you have there, and using them in your own herd. When I was 16 years old, I spent a few weeks working at Remitall in Alberta and I have always remembered Louis Latimer telling me, that the real good breeders are never afraid to use a sire that they have produced. I think there is some truth in this statement.
