Jason Clough down in Charlotte im my opinion is about the best there is. Or you could go to the University and have Doctor Ames do it if he is available he's not as aggresive when it comes to fixing problems but still does a nice job.
Stay away from anyone that hasn't delt with showcattle such as full time dairy trimmers they tend to use a chipper wheel and its a bad deal.

Finding a hoof trimmer that you like is a hard task. First you have to look at styles of trimming. There is a big difference between the trimmers that started trimming in the 60's-70's and the newer trimmers of the 2000's. In the older days many herds were still out on pastor half there life allowing the trimmers to trim flatter and more aggressive angles. With the addition of 100% concrete herds trimming styles have been forced to change in order to give the cow added traction in the barn yard to prevent slip and falls. And then came the STAND UP CHUTE. It has forced trimmers to change there style a little more, digging large pits in the sole of the hoof and keeping the length of toe longer as to not nick them. This happens because they are unable to look at all angles of the hoof to make a accurate trim in a timely manner. So to find a hoof trimmer that has both the experience of the "old school" trimming and the new styles, that also use a layover chute would be ideal.

I have been trimming Dairy herds and show cattle for over five years and before that I apprenticed for two years under a trimmer of 30+ years. I was instructed by a state show cow judge on the finer points of trimming show cattle and he still has me trim his cattle every year before his cattle go to msu. Being a herdsman for ten years before I started trimming has given me the experience to know how ever little thing effects the cow, helping me look past just the hoof and take care of the rest of the cow. Dr. Ames at Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine does an excellent job. I would highly recommend him.

I WOULD AGREE WITH JASON CLOUGH.  HE MAY NOT BE THAT OLD( I SAY THAT NOW BECASUE I AM GETTING OLDER) BUT THE GUY HAS BEEN AROUND THE CATTLE BUSINESS FOR A LONG TIME, AND IS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE IN THE SHOW SIDE OF THINGS AS WELL AS ONE HECK OF A CATTLEMAN.  HE HAS ALWAYS DONE A DARN GOOD JOB.  PETE MILLER ALSO COMES UP THIS WAY FOR SHOWS, YOU CAN CALL HIS BROTHER MATT FOR HIS NUMBER.  HE IS DARN GOOD AS WELL.  DR. AIMES DOES A NICE JOB, LIKE PREVIOUSLY STATED, JUST NOT AS AGRESSIVE AT TIMES WITH WHAT YOU MAY NEED DONE.  I HAVE GUY LOCALLY THAT CAN DO A GOOD JOB ON A COW AND A DECENT JOB ON A SHOW CALF IF THERE ISN'T ANYTHING TOO EXTREME TO BE DONE.  PM ME FOR HIS NAME IF YOU WOULD LIKE.
