Good evening to everyone, I have a question about hoof trimming a cow that is bred.  When would it be safe to hoof trim a bred cow, how far along should she be?  I would like to get her done but don't want to take chance with her losing her calf.  I have never had to trim cows hooves so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I usually wait until at least 60 days bred but only have one I've done bred so it's a small sample size. She's been done at 60-90 days the last 3 years with no problem. The vet has a good hydraulic chute and doesn't keep her up any longer than necessary.

On dairy cows,  they are routinely hoof trimmed as needed without regard to pregnancy status and analysis of records indicates no effect on pregnancy retention.    This is on many thousands of dairy cows per year.
