Just wondering if most of you hire a professional to do your hoof trimming or if you do it yourself. I have a trimmer I use but he is very busy with larger Dairy herds in our area and is very hard to get scheduled in. It also seems like it costs a lot but I realize for him to stop over and do 2 or 3 animals is not as profitable for him as going to a large farm and working several hours.

If you are able to do it yourself, can you give me any pointers on how to do it or point me to helpful resources or web links?

I have a professional trimmer. There are several here in the valley but i wouldnt trust anyone else with my cattle.  it costs twenty bucks an animal but it is way worth it, most of the show steers around here dont get hooves trimmed and it gives me a slight advantage in structure and soundness. I wouldnt trust myself to do it but i might start learning from him.
