Well, we had our first Hooks Broadway calf yesterday afternoon. Dam is a 22 month old heifer. I knew she was in early labor in the morning, so I checked on her a few times. Went back out and the darn thing was already sucking, but barely standing and still wet! Great vigor, and that heifer had to calve pretty darn fast for me to miss it. We weighed him this morning, 12 hours later, and he was 48 pounds! I don't like them that small, but better small than big. The bigger surprise was all the white on his face! No white really on her side, her dam is solid and has never thrown white, even being bred to Fat Butt. Glad we have several bred to Broadway, happy so far!
Oh, and this heifer and her calf will be consigned to our Fall Harvest sale! Lucky buyer will have a really nice calving ease bull for next year!
