I've been using a ration that is by no means hot, but I've finished even the most hard to finish steers on it. The ration is:

45.75% cracked corn
20% whole oats
17.5% cottonseed hulls
12.75% soybean meal
1.5% mineral package
1.5% liquafat
1% digestamax

I will tweak the ration in some instances, but most all our steers have been grown and finished on this ration. If you have an especially hard doing steer a bypass fat can be added. Nutrient analysis of this ration on a dry matter basis is:

14.77% crude protein
12.5  % crude fiber
5.17% crude fat

Hope this helps.

I'm curious to know why you are going to a hot ration with summer approaching? I'm assuming you mean a high corn high energy ration correct? Just be careful how hot you go because you could negatively affect your conversions and possible burn more fat than you put on.  Remember energy is heat, and a hotter ration which produces more heat may not give you your desired results. If it is cover you are looking for there are other options. G-Luck

You can mix any amount of feed you need with those percentages. I've mixed feed from as much as two tons at a time in my vertical mixer all the way down to 100 pound batches in a hand mixer. My steers perform really well on this ration. I am currently feeding two steers. One weighs 1140 pounds and the other weighs 880. They are both getting 16 pounds of this ration a day plus all the hay the want. They are gaining 3 and 3.5 lbs/day respectively. I did have to increase the soybean meal on the bigger calf because he was getting too fat too quickly.  Good luck.
