I can’t answer your question but I can tell from your posts that you’re young and enthusiastic which is great. I think it would be beneficial for you to try find a mentor to answer some of your questions and provide advice as you need it. If you share your location maybe someone on here could hook you up with a more experienced breeder in your area.

Why would you want to twine?  There are several better products in aerosol cans to build legs with. I always thought twining looked fake and there probably aren’t one guy in 500. That can do it right so that it stays on the legs. They really don’t look that good with chunks of twine falling off their legs.

Baling twine or horse hair glued to the legs and tail head to fill in gaps of no hair.  It is also used to change natural angles and give the appearance of straighter and larger leg or more level hip.

DON'T DO IT!!! Judges hate it and there are probably only 2 guys on the planet that can make it look natural.

Powderful or ProPowder White (Christmas tree snow) is the only thing I would use.  Maybe a little sawdust but only in a couple of spots and not the whole leg.

The way to learn how to do something like this is to go to some big prospect shows and just hang around the fitting chutes.

You have to go to the early prospect shows because it isn't allowed at the terminal shows.  I know that some people will get away with some modest twining at fat steer shows, but you won't be allowed to do any major twine work.

The thing is, when it is done correctly...you won't even know it is done.

It takes a lot of practice to do a good job with the twine, and you need a pretty substantial amount of hair to begin with in order to make it look undetectable.

ok. cool. and how do i use sawdust?
I stead of twining, buy bigger-boned cattle or get a cool room to grow longer leg hair.

You do not want to get the reputation as a "twiner."

Just curious who are the only 2 guys on the planet that can make it look natural?  I know of a very prominent judge out of Missouri that would rant and rave over it when he judged steer shows but then his sons showed heifers that had it done to them.  I've also seen many judges compliment the fit jobs on twined cattle as well.

Steve was kidding.  There are more than 2 guys that can make it look natural.

The key to making twine look natural is having good hair to begin with.  When twine is used to enhance already good hair, it is hard to notice.  When you start with crappy hair, it just doesn't work.

Well...I don't think you meant it literally Steve?
