Just wondering how everyone will spend their evening. Our family usually rent some movies and order Pizza and stay home. We sometimes have guests but it most of the time is just our family. Kids are old enough now that they may have their own parties to go to.

What are your plans / traditions?

We don't even make it to midnight! We used to go to church service but now w/ our church being a 45 minute drive, we stay off the road. We usually have a special meal w/ ham, rolls, a cheese ball & other goodies. Also get some sparkling grape juice. neither one of use are drinkers anymore.
I suspect Woody will have the best time. He gets to draw the winner for Cowboy's flush.

If and that is a strong "if" it quits snowing (were to get easily 6" today, 3" already by 10a.m.) we are taking the kids to dinner, then Danielle (my daughter and I) have a tradition of starting a quilt.  SO.....she's starting her new 4-H quilt and I'm starting one called "Chance of Flurries".  Thought that quilt fit our December weather lol.

We usually watch t.v. &  regular stuff. Kids & wife stay up to watch the ball drop, I'm in bed long time by then. We always have black-eyed peas(for good luck) with our supper.

For the past few years I have gone to The Possom Drop. This is a redneck version of the ball drop. they lower a live possom in a cage from the top of a power pole at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. The tourists have caught onto the tradition so there are always a ton of people. there. This year though we are supposed to be getting 4 or 5 inches of snow so my parents said they didn't want me driving an hour and a half away so we are just going to rent some movies and get a pizza or something like that. O and check the cows a few times to make sure they are ok!

We stay home and build a big fire outside of the barn for family and friends to enjoy.  Cook a big meal and pop fireworks, usually wind it up about 10:00 pm so everbody can avoid the traffic on amateur night.  For those of you that don't know what amateur night is, we call this New Years Eve.  The one night of the year that most people who normally do not drink will go out and party and then drive home.  Happy New Year to all and be safe.

We always go to a firends house.  They always have a theme to the party- this year it is "ugly sweater".  I think you guys that order pizza and watch movies have it make- I would much rather do that!  Happy New Year wishes to all!

We used to go out on the town years ago, but as the family came along things have changed.  Ever since we have been married(10 YRS Dec 20th),  we have decided it is to much trouble getting daycare for the Boys(8,4,3) that we include them.  We always get together with some close friends(4 young children)  Drink some cheer, talk cattle, talk some more cattle, talk Husker Football, Talk some more Cattle then celebrate and have a sleep over.  This makes it safe and the kids love it.  We used to switch back and forth between the two houses but last year we all stayed at my families little cabin by the Platte River.  Everyone loved it last year so the cabin is probably a permanent spot now.  The ladies don't have to get there houses ready for a sleepover as the cabin is always ready.

Below are pictures of our cabin, taken on Christmas at my family get together.  We love it down their and the family is proud of it.  Pretty simple but we built it ourselves.  Just thought I would share.

Take Care and have a blessed New Years,

Hope to meet some Steer Planet folks in Denver.  We will be around the bull that we sold called Dr. Business(3/4 Maine cleen bull)
Look us up.

here's some photos from my new years.

prime rib was from pic of carcass hanging on previous post of draft pick steer out of direct midas cow
rib was further dry aged in fridge with towel replacement everyday for 3 days.
cooked at 110 for 4 hours, allowed to steam to 130, cooked for about an hour at a i forget the temp, crisped for about 15 minutes.
wine was 1991 behringer straight cab.  the little hot plate was mine as prime rib gets cool too fast for me.
my sister's husband and his brother were there and they are austrian, they absolutely ate all the fat and gristle.

gotta say, it was the most tender and perfectly cooked prime rib i have ever had.  the coating was general spices and sweet mustard.
the strip on the outside was so awesome it literally mellted in my mouth.  i even had some of the fat.
when i slice through it, it took only ONE swipe of the knife to cut all the way through with almost no pressure.

other pic, jimmy who?
