It seems like those herdsman pay more attention to their stall in one week than they do their cattle in one year, and it shows in the ring.

we, as a county, have alot of fun with decorating stalls.....we have a couple of moms who love to decorate; they have creative and wonderful ideas; for fall, they string up garlands of leaves, have bouquets of fall grains, milo, grasses, corn; displays of fall, pumpkins on a bale, etc.  right before Halloween, there are a couple of plastic jack-o-lanterns hanging off the stall dividers with candy in them; they string up colored lights, and have a county sign along with the stall cards.

also there are several moms that organize a food table for the county kids; we all pitch in with money or food; we have stuff like pork loin sandwiches, walking tacos, bbqs, you name it; hurrah for the moms of our county!!!!

a good backdrop and stall decoration, will bring far more people to your pens than you  might think...  People that otherwise might not come over, and people than are looking for you, but can't find you in the hecktic mess...  We put just enough information out there, to generate questions...  My philopsophy is that if I can engauge in conversation, I can sell them something.

For our stalls, we have a purple backdrop, with pedigrees hanging on it, and a few random other things.  Our actual display is made from 4 lawn trelises together, with x'mass lights and pictures of herd sires, sold stuff, and show winners...  really only the important ones.  A endless supply of business cards are also available...  We're also going to put a small table with some candy on it, to kinda draw people to stop and read...  Perhaps in the future, we might get 'rich' enough to supply the world with ink-pens.

Ours is simple, but still cost plenty, we made things about as cheap as we could, and it still cost about $200.  It doesn't take very long to setup- but forever to print off pedigrees!

When you take only 1-3 head to a fair, decorating your stalls is worthless, especially if you have never produced anything, or haven't produced anything worthy of notes...  Also, if you are just taking a market animal, you're wasting your money..  Stall decorations are for the breeders, who are trying to sell a product...  for those who take 40-50 head to a show...

Sounds like fun- our county does not allow decorated stalls.  I understand why- we are usually short of room for cattle, much less extra decorations, so that's the way the ball bounces.
If your club picks a theme and everyone does that theme in the row where your club is stalled- would look cool.
You could do movies, tv shows, rock and roll, country.
Just havin fun.

our kids are encouraged to place a sign over their stall/pen. the steers have three to ffour feet each. several years ago i have my husband make 18" by 4' boards. they have a plywood back and latis onfront with a wood frame. then painted the frame and background either blue for the FFA and Green for 4H and the latis Gold FFA White 4H then each kid(daughter) added her touch silk flowers , ivy, etc. sarah uses door mats with meaningful statements lilke "Proud Americans live here"
they are also encouraged to put up before after pics. thank past buyers feed mills. you can get a lot of info in 4 ft.   they hang from the rafters so we need ladders. and the pig steer boards get screwed to the headers. we also have limited space. our fair is small. several steer exhibitors have fan cages it worked out this year everyone had a stall devider because they or their neighbor had one. i like the nice simple vinyl signs hung over the heads with pedigree info and clean walkways.  no clutter to avoid.

O by the way, we DO NOT Decorate for county fairs, we do for state fair, and louisville

We do not decorate for the sales, although we might start, but we do post pedigrees on the sale animals

Our fair has themes every year..this past was your favorite candy bar which for my husbands and mine we did mounds and almond joy, we used tropical theme decorations that we got from the dollar tree and we got a pack of almond joy and mounds fun size candies attached alligator clips with fishing line to them and another alligator clip to hang them from the net we hung from the rafters, the signs were made out of foam board decorated like the candy bar with their names and info on them. My brothers we did mars bar did like a glaxay in the sign with a space ship made from the candy bar wrapper and hung foam balls with fishin line on the rafters that we painted red. You dont have to spend a lot of money on it just have a good imagination and look around to see what u have or what other people u know might have for u to barrow. We spent only $20 for our decorations. We only get about 5' per animal. Visitors to our fair enjoy our theme every year and say they always look foward to seeing what it is every year. Not to mention everyone enjoyed their candy from the stalls people gave out  (clapping)

I would rather my cattle attract attention than my stall, i let them sell themselves

IDK about rest of yalls county fairs but ours get decorated by the youth for a contest 1st thru 3rd in each species and winners get prizes likegift certificates or show equip. that businesses donate. Our animals r mostly sold at the jr livestock sale the breeding animals r the exception. Its a lotta fun...a lot of 4-h kids do there signs at their meetings.

good for you.. why not have both- great stock and a great display?  It just goes to show for those who "care" and promote their stock.  Promotion never hurt a thing!

ours is about the same we have clean stall awards that are awarded to the club with the cleanest stalls, but part of it is based on decorations and also educational information, usually we put some facts, bi-products...    Our fairs also have themes and some decorate for the theme some clubs just have the decorations each year.  (we are stallled by clubs/chapters and that is how they are judged)
