Our stalls are 12x24 and I was thinking about putting cedar fiber down in the front half. How many bags for a 12x12 stall?

At 4 inches deep you need 44 cubic feet (cf), at 6 inches you need 72 cf, not sure how many cubic feet in a bag, so if it were 5 cf you would need 11 bags for 4" and 14+ for 6".

I did some research, Cedarest, the one we used is 2.5 cf, so you would need 22 bags for 4" or 28 for 6".

Then add 2 to 3 bags a week for lost beeding.

Thanks a bunch. These are 1.5 cf so it's gonna take a little more than I planned. Might be worth a shot if I can figure out a way to keep the dust down during the day.

We have used regular pine shavings to build up under the mats and so long as they aren't rooting out the mats and the shavings, there is no need for the expense of cedar there.  Use the cedar for the bedding part.

Each night after the kids kicked the steers out they would rake, fluff, and then wet down and pack the cedar.
We wet the keck out of it the first time we put it down, it in layers, wetting down each layer.

The biggest thing is to clean up after the calves, first thing, every time you are in the area. Will keep it cleaner and the cedar will last longer.
