My dad bought a Maine Anjou bull three years ago from a guy that sells show calves and bulls. The problem is he said he was going to give us papers but never did. We try to call and ask for the papers and he says he will mail them but never does and when we call and he dosen't answer when we leave a message.  And we have calves that we need to be registered for us to show them and sell them to people. And i am wondering if any of you ever had to deal with this problem and what would you do about this. ITS GETTING REALLY RIDCULOUS!

Happens a lot in the SHorthorn breed.  Getting paper work for shorthorns is such a big hasle that I often find problems, not only from the breeder, but others along the way that may have sold and then resold cattle.  Finding just who ownes a bull and all the extra stuff that goes along the way is a hassle.  Good luck, if the guy that you bought the bull from has any class he would be doing everything that he could to get the calf registered for you.  But as I am learning, there are a lot of cattle people out there that just don't.  My advice is just buy from who you know is going to treat you well.

Call John at the AMAA and tell him the situation -

I agree.. call the breed association.  It doesn't sound good though.. I can't imagine why they would take so long to give them to you, unless there is a problem with the  bull.  Do you have any kind of documentation from them prior to buying that suggested it was a registered bull, and who the parents were?  I wonder if he isn't what they told you he was.

Good luck.

I have been in the same position before and it's unpleasant.

I purchased two bred females one time and still didn't have papers 1.5 years later when their DAUGHTERS were bred back and I wanted to show them.

Once you have given every oppurtunity for the breeder to produce the papers, politely call your breed association and explain your situation. They should be willing to help and will likely get i resolved on your behalf.

People that do not get buyers there papers make me money. Why you ask? Because I hand them the papers on the spot when they buy from me the next year. Absolutely call John at the AMA he is a great person to work with.
