It's kind of  funny that this comes out and now Matt Lautner says on his blog that ABS does not meet the standards to sell Monopoly 2

I think it's pretty obvious that Matt doesn't really like ABS making the accusation that it did (if what you are saying is true) and being the owner of Monopoly 2, he has the right to let as many or few people he wants to sell his semen. I'd probably do the same thing. I would imagine ABS probably would like the income they get from Matt's cattle.

I have no problem using any Lautner bull.  We vaccinate our cattle for Lepto and I think that a great calf out of I80 out weighs the 50 cents for the lepto vaccine.

He has passed CSS (Certified Semen Services) testing and you can view the letter below at:

OK I am officially completely confused. When one talks about Lepto in cattle and one talks about the 5 way vaccine or the 5 strains one is usually talking about Lepto (serovars) hardjo, pomona, icterohaemorrhagiae, grippotyphosa and canicola.

One is not talking about the serovar Lepto hardjo bovis. The bovine is the reservoir of  infection by the serovar Lepto hardjo bovis  and the bacteria reside in the kidneys and are shed in the urine and semen. When one talks about Spirovac one is talking about vaccination for Lepto hardjo bovis (https://animalhealth.pfizer.com/sites/pahweb/US/EN/Products/Pages/SPIROVAC%C2%AE.aspx) not the other 5 strains of Lepto that can infect cattle.

So this bull does not have the 5 strains of Lepto - testing of which is required for CSS certification http://www.naab-css.org/about_css/Participation2011.htm - but according to jagerbeef when he called ABS he was told the semen went back because the bull had Lepto and his vet said to Spirovac his cows ........is it clear as mud to anyone?

fixed the abbreviation which I had wrong CSS = certified semen services

So is this Lepto hardjo bovis  NOT a strain that is tested for when semen needs to meet Canadian requirements? If not, why isn't it?

I would like to offer my public apology to the Lautner's for any trouble I have caused and trouble that I have made.  I should have called and done more fact checking  before I posted a rumor that I had heard and again I am very sorry for any inconvenience that I have caused.

Whatever has been said or rumored to be said, ABS has it's own standards and if a bull doesn't meet their criteria, they have the right and obligation to themselves to not move the bull's semen. There are many bulls that do not meet ABS's set criteria and are still sold by many other distributors.

[size=10pt]GONEWEST - The CSS (Certified Semen Services) of the NAAB (National Association of Animal Breeders) has requirements for their certified facilities - specific testing at specific time intervals for specific diseases. Those diseases tested for are on the letter.

I do not know why the CSS does not require testing for Lepto hardjo bovis -

Canada as a country can and does create their own requirements for importation of semen and embryos (as well as live cattle)

talked to my ABS rep today and he said that I80 does have lepto and so does the Simmental bull Fat Butt and many of the other bulls available for A.I. that are on the market.
He says this is becoming a huge problem that these bulls carry lepto, BVD, blood detectable diseases; he said there is NO problem using them in AI breeding but the problem becomes housing the bulls; ABS will not house any bulls that test positive for these diseases; hence they will not collect them in an ABS collection center nor distribute them.  He says that they can be brought to a collection center, collected and taken home after collection.  He said that Lepto
can't be detected in the semen.  The bull with lepto presents a health issue for the other bulls at the collection center in that there is the chance for the disease to be passed onto other cattle that don't have it.

Hope this answers some questions.
