Working on our spring breeding plans. One challenge mating I have is a Charolais sired heifer out of an Ali x Heatwave dam. Phenotypically I think I-80 would work great and offer us enough calving ease.  Just not sure about lining up the Ali that close.

Does anybody have any experience with this or tried it??

Thanks!
Ron

I looked but couldnt find it, but I thought there was a post about this same mating on a recent post. I dont think it worked well. Maybe someone else can find it or remember.

We are using a herd bull here on our heifers- that is sired by an Ali son- and dammed by an Ali daughter.  His picture is first-- was a nice bull as a calf- and like many herd bulls should be- has lived a rough life out with cows- so he doesn't look like much today.  We have not bred this bull to anything but virgin heifers- and honestly, I think it's plenty good enough first calf crop.  WE've had probably 13 calves from him- and they're all about half sized when they come out- 60 pounds pretty much every time.

Here is pictures of our two best bull calves, and the best heifer calf.  Heifer calf is a Mayish- the two bulls are Sept- and were weaned about 2 weeks after I took these pictures.

For us, I'd say it worked- course our goal is a bit different than your's is...
