I'd feed her LOL

There is a link on Lautner's blog that shows the top selling calves, who purchased them, and what bull they were sired by and I80 has some top sellers listed on there.  I would say a lot for a promoted ''calving ease'' bull.

For those of you have bred I-80 to heifers and calved them out,  how did it turn out?  How big were the calves?

had a 76 pound bull out of a leggy 5y/o powerplus /angus cow... kept him to use as clean up on heifers... he looks great and is getting better every day... did a GREAT job of "cutting off some leg"

The guy I know who has used him said they averaged 71lbs. That was 27 steer/heifer calves he had last year. The cows were all angus X. I have breed 10 cows to him this year.

We had 2 first time calvers have I-80 bull calves. One was about 80 pounds the other was about 90. I believe the mothers effected their birthweights. Only pulled the 90 pounder. Were easy feeding, great disposition, good hair and sound. I am very excited to see how they do this show season and we've decided to primarily use him on our heifers and will be using him a bit in our fall calvers. :)

Do you guys think that I-80 would work pretty good on a Monopoly X Purebred shorthorn heifer?

I will admit that is a great picture, and what I would think to be a great prospect if it were a Steer.  I see this heifer down the road having too much muscle, and too short bodied.  She may go on to produce some nice Steers (if they can get them out of her), but I sure don't see her as ever producing a top Breeding Heifer.  And, about advertised calving ease bulls; they scare me because studies show that each generation of lighter birthweight cows will develop a smaller pelvic area.  Hence, you are producing Hard Calver Cows!

So based off  "lighter birth weight = smaller pelvic area", one could assume that Heat Wave Heifers should have larger pelvic areas? ;)

If you think about it over time maybe the average pelvic area may become smaller ( you would not be killing as many heifers) since the calves are smaller the heifers with smaller pelvic areas would reproduce, passing on that trait.

If you went the other way (larger birth weights) you would see the pelvic area become larger since you would eventually kill off any cow with a small or below average pelvic area. But as the average goes up so does the size of a below average sized pelvic area.

Now that I-80 has been out for a few years, what are the types of heifers he really seems to work well on? I've heard he cleans up the "front end" but does he smooth out shoulders, or just clean up the neck/brisket area? Does he tend to make them shallow or deep bodied? And how about the rear 1/3 of the body in regards to heifers that maybe lack a little bit of rump or need a little bit more set to their rear legs?
Thanks for any input!
