ok, so ive been dealing with this for almost a week now...found one of my heifers with a bad wound up on her back, moving very slowly this past tuesday (we check them every day, so it happened sometime between feeding monday evening and tuesday evening)...could not figure out for the life of me what happened until i was riding around the farm yesterday and found the tree, with hair on  it, so im assuming thats what happened, the limb fell and hit her on the back....anyway, the wound seems to be clearing up, we have been putting triple antibiotic cream on it, just stuff i had in my medicine cabinet...seems to be clearning the wound up, and she is walking alot better, seems to be fine as far as that goes, but there is more swelling around the wound and when i touched it last night, it felt hard and hot...but its not red...should i be giving her a shot of something? doing anything else?

I would think an anti - inflammation  drug as well as an antibiotic would be in order. That's what I would give her if she was mine.

Well that sure is a dirty trick! If this is a heifer you can easily handle it wouldn't hurt to soak it in warm water couple times a day and clean it up good  (like you need more work to do :) - that way if there is some infection underneath you will see it sooner than later. Giving her an anti inflammatory ie Banamine would not hurt and might help and perhaps the inflammation - if you do not think the site is infected I guess I would skip the antibiotic, but it you think it is infected I would add one - pm me if you need to  ;)
