We have a calf that has a drooping ear and has trouble with balance and being able to stand properly.  It was fine yesterday morning when my husband went to work but when we both came home it had the droopy ear and trouble standing properly.  We had a few calves with snotty noses so we gave shots of Micotil and this calf got about 4 1/2 cc (400 lb calf) and at the advice of our normal vet got also about 2 cc of banamine.  We think the calf may have an inner ear infection.  I called another vet this morn as our normal vet thought a vitamin deficiency.  He said to keep on track with what we have been giving.  The calf seemed more active this morning and was eating well with the others but still has the droopy ear and neck to the side. The runny nose is almost gone.  It is much less than yesterday.  Are we headed on the right track? The second vet also said something about a brain infection I believe the vet called it Listeria coming from a bacteria found in silage. I read up a little on this but it said silage is typically fed 3 to 6 weeks before developing this and the calves have only been on silage this week. Again, does everyone feel we are on the right track?  Any help would be appreciated.

My first thought would be mycoplasma.  What is its temperature.  Typically Myco calves will run a really high temp by the time you notice them with droopy ears.  Myco calves will also stay on feed fairly well, so they are hard to pick up on quickly.

Mycotil will do a good job of nocking it out, but a 400# calf needs 6 cc.  Nuflor gold has also worked well for us.

The banamine will bring down the temperature.  So you probably won't get an accurate temp for 12-24 hours after you gave the banamine.  If the temp is really high, keep it on banamine

A little update on our market heifer.  We talked to our local vet and they guessed mycoplasma as well.  We started with a dose of Micotel and then three days later a dose of Draxxin.  She was really looking good after about a week on the Draxxin but just to be safe we gave a dose of Baytril.  I think we are out of the woods and she is looking great.  Hopefully she will make it to our county fair this summer and I will have updates to post.  This is a beautiful calf and we have high hopes for her.

Another update on the market heifer.  We found out the heifer had mycoplasia but this weekend we attended the Minnesota Beef Expo and in a very hard class she placed third but he had a lot of great comments for her.  We felt we should have won the class but we knew going in we would be first or third as he was picking the calves in pairs.  We were amazed as just weeks ago we thought we were going to lose her.  The funny thing of all this.  I am not good at clipping and my daughter is at college.  She was not clipped out until after verification.  People snickered and laughed in verification line.  She actually looked like a rag doll and after clipping later that afternoon my husband took her for a walk and people couldnt believe it was the same calf. We are so excited for this show season.  Wish I had pics but my phone was almost dead at show time so I do not have a pic.
