You can get entries online. I think @IJBBA.com. I cked and @ the bottom of the home page on IJBBA there is a link that'll take you to Iowa Beef Expo.

I went to IJBBA and the expos website and couldn't find any forms or anyingthing like that? Do they put them on there later in the year? How has everyone done it in the past?

Last year, we registered online.  I can't remember when the online registration process started, but I'm pretty sure it's early now.  I would take another peek after the 1st of the year or mid January.

Really doubt we're going this year.    Last year it was like they didn't want you there...can't do this..can't do that..  Move your generator... Don't scoop up bedding even though you bought extra spots for your blocking chute.. They were on the loudspeaker every 30 seconds witching about something or other.  Only way we'll go is if its warm enough to stall and fit in the tie-outs.  Otherwise if you got a good one you can go to Sioux Falls instead in January cuz the good Iowa calves will all be in Sioux Falls so if you can't get around them up there no sense going to expo.

It is a shame you had a bad experience at the Expo.  We have gone for many years and have always had a great experience.  It is one of the biggest early shows and a great time.  Have always felt very welcomed

I can see it both ways... the Iowa Expo is one of the largest juniors shows around, and so you have to keep a tight rein or it will be a free for all. I have seen it all, from people taking and hiding stuff on their "competitiors" to people parking in the middle of the road to taking all the stalls, even if they weren't theirs. This doesn't even mention all the ones that show up early to crowd out the angus breed, which do not have to be out till midnight (the juniors would show up at 3-4 pm and start moving your stuff) So, the officials and people in charge HAVE to force the rules. Those that follow the rules sometimes get stomped on. Some of those that "stretch" the rules sometimes feel unwanted.
On the flip side, it is one of the biggest shows around, so your gonna have to allow for some "freedom", as you can't watch 1300 calves and owners, as well as the 4-6 "fitters" for each calf (which I have never understood, as I thought the rules said the exhibitor or family has to fit the calf... whatever). Someone is always going to feel jilted, and someone is always going to get away with something. But they have to try and keep the chaos organized.

I have heard many either going south to the MO show, or north to avoid the mess..... nature of the beast I guess.

I am looking forward to expo because this will be my first year showing up there.  I am going to take a commercial heifer and a steer.

Its getting almost too big.  There are too many calves and people trying to cram into too small of an area.  You are seeing more and more people say screw it and just stall in the tie out barn.  At least out in the tie out barn there is room to breathe and you aren't getting your butt chewed for every little thing.

I agree Dusty.  We had trouble getting our chute inside last year because of space.  I hate being crammed in.  In fact, I question every year why we go.  I'm in the same boat.  If the weather isn't good enough, there's no way we'll go because we stall in the tie outs.

Wonder if the space concern has ever been considered by the IJBBA?  Would definitely not drag my feet so much if it wasn't so crammed.  As costly as it is to go to these shows, the last thing you want in the middle of an Iowa winter is being uncomfortable and not being able to spread out.  That's my opinion.  My junior may think otherwise.  ;D  As being the one that pays the entry fees and motel bills, ultimately me being crammed is not a good thing for the experience.

Really thinking we're gonna do the Sioux Falls show this year and pass on expo.  Just like you said, every year when we get there we askwhy ourselves why the heck we even go.

I totally agree with everyone about being a total mess at the exp....Last year we had no where to put our show box, chute, etc when we got there so we were stuck two isles from our heifer and then she didn't even have a whole stall to lay down.  Good thing she was a "beast." She stood her own ground and just laid down.  I complained and wanted to move, they gave us an option of moving right by an electrical box!!!!  My husband said if we wanted to see our heifer again that wouldn't be a good choice..

We also went to Sioux Falls and it is a much more "relaxed" show and good facilities.  Another good show is in Lincoln, NE the 17th and 18th of December the AGR puts on.  There is a lot of GREAT cattle at that show...

Good luck to everyone as a new show season begins...

Well depending on politics, some PPL seem to always get to be together in the special North aisle. Oops.

When are you supposed to check in? I'm sure that people get there hours before the specified time and get space the "unfair" way. We've never been to this particular show and some of these opinions make me not want to go this year?
