Anyone have an ipad yet?  What do you think of it?  What does steerplanet look like on it?

got one today.  everyone at work got one for "work" which in one day a bunch of people made files with it to track experiments.

took it home and of course my daughter has it tied up all day.

steerplanet looks the same.  haven't checked to see if any of your app uses flash which the ipad doesn't do.

we got the low memory wifi model as work as a wifi system and we are converting all our records to online with minimal notebook tracking.  not sure what's going to happen there as things need to be dated and signed.  maybe do all the work on the ipad, then print, which is a slight hassle with the form factor.

set up a wireless router in about 5 minutes.  that was $50 for an N level router.

Yes, and I love it! I got mine back in January and haven't had any problems with it at all. They have the iPad2 now, just wish there was a way to upgrade to it for a decent price. I just have the 16gb Wifi model and I almost use it more than my laptop. It always has good signal when my laptop doesnt and it usually pretty fast.
As for SteerPlanet it pretty much looks the same. When the iPad is vertical you kinda have to scroll side to side to se everything, but when its on its side everything fits just fine.
Definitely a good investment!

Look at the Xoom.  I've messed with that and the ipad 2 and I think the Xoom is a better product.

seems like the only use for a pc is the windows apps.  i see a war coming between oracle and microsoft and other enterprise solutions as replacements for office take hold.

when the need for excessive formatting in word disappears and visicalc can use it's patent priority, microsoft will be in trouble.

Sorry Knabe I have to disagree with you on this one.  Microsoft is much more than just office.  They have the best software development framework and the most cutting edge database development platform.  Oracle and DB2 are a nightmare to maintain and the Java is becoming an archaic language. Too many companies are too large to turn the ship to something else.

i know they are more than office, and yes oracle is probably the worst incrementitis company ever except for government.

we almost chose microsoft for a db, but didn't.

I went to the Verizon store last week and checked out the IPad and the Xoom.  The IPad is nice.. bigger screen, and lighter than the Xoom, but I'm not a "techie".. and all my laptops are Microsoft, so I'm going to wait for the updated version of the Xoom which should be later this summer. Maybe the price will go down a little by then ! <cowboy>

Drake, my 12 year old son got one a couple months ago.  I thought I just had to have one, but waited until he got his to mess with one a little bit before I spent the money.  I'm OUT.....I would much rather use my Mac Laptop.

It seems like the download time, especially for youtube is slower and I just never have liked the touch keyboards that much.  It's REALLY COOL, don't take me wrong, but don't buy one before you buy a home computer or laptop in my opinion.  It's more like a glorified ipod.

You're dead on.  These tablets are meant for data consumption not creation.  Their pretty cool when you want to look at stuff but if you want to input anything you'll want you laptop/home computer.

Anyone feel free to answer this...My daughter is about to graduate, and I am going to get her an apple of some sort.  Which do y'all prefer...Ipad or Mac Book?  We have been PC peeps, but want to change.  The Ipad looks sleek and sexy, but would it be the right choice for her college computer?  Thanks in advance for your help...!

I would go with the MacBook for college. I love our iPad if I can get it away from my wife and kids.

MacBook for suuuuure.  We got my sister one last year for graduation, and her macbook is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. It will definitely be the next computer I buy.
