tim was instrumental in important semen from a variety of breeds including friesians, chianina, some shorthorns, limousins (i may be wrong onthat one), now fleckvieh's, there may be others. his friesians became amerifax when crossed with angus at a percentage of 3/8 friesian, 5/8 angus. him along with quirks probably had the largest herds of amerifaxes, but straight friesians, that's a tough guess. tim's percentage angus are angus II's with permission from the angus association. i saw a few fullblood friesians there in the late 80's, both black and white and red and white. i really liked them at the time, they had a lot of volume, bigger bags, dairy hip, moderate frame (compared to the maine's especially) had a nicer head than angus, kinda holsteiny chi like, and looked great when crossed with ildeno and you got more growth earlier out of that cross, though sometimes they wouldn't stop growing, i had one, i'm 6'2" and the withers came up to my chin. probably the wrong time for commercial operators as the crossbreds weren't in vogue then and leachman was just starting to get popular with that after leaving ankony. another trait i liked (the friesians) was their hock set and their feet size. i thought they were very sound. dairy people are very sensitive about hocks and feet as the animals have to survive on cement and the friesians had to have some selection there for that, as opposed to the maines, which were more small pasture oriented.
do you mean an "edge" in carcass!!!!!!!!
