Hello,

Is anyone using Steam Rolled Oat Flakes (aka steam rolled oats, or steam rolled groats) in their rations?
(Not to be confused with steamed crimped oats; I'm talking about hulled oat groats that have been steam rolled so that they look like Quaker oatmeal).

If so, how are you using them?  Just in a starter ration, or as a grower, maybe as a finisher?  All of the above?

What kind of quantities are you using?

If you prefer other forms of oats (whole, crimped, etc.), what are you using, and why?

Trying to learn more about how steam rolled oats are used in show cattle.

Thanks!

Yes, we use them a lot.

Mostly use them on yearling heifers to help maintain body and bloom but not wanting to overdo one.

Vastly prefer them to any other form of oat for our purposes.

They're not terribly hard to find, but not everybody has them, and yep I buy them in 50lb bags.
