I have a chiangus heifer that acts very wild. She is pretty much halter broke ,but she just has a attitude that you can't calm her down. Is there anything we can do to calm her down. Are fair is in three weeks and i am very nervous that she won't be able to go. She is a very good heifer that could compete and i would just hate to have to leave her at home. Thanks.

You could try her with Ace or Atrovet.

I would try it at home to see how she reacts and what the ideal dossage migh be.

One other old trick is to feed her a few Aspirins, some people claim it makes a subtle difference and that might be all you need.

Becareful with the ace... I would tie her up, brush her a bunch, use the showstick on her a bunch, just get her use to someone being around her and being messed with a bunch. I dont think many people have had luck with calm calf paste. I think your best bet would be just constantly work with her those weeks leading up to show and try to immitate your shows surroundings, play music in the barn, walk her as if she was in the showring and set her up with the showstick, and do whatever your going to do to her at the fair. Good Luck!!! I hope this helps!!!

Diffidently try it at home. You could load her up and haul her around  town with you for a day or days and see if that works. I can say I feel your pain!

I would do what everyone else suggested as far as working with her and being around her. Take her for rides in the trailer. If possible take her to the fair grounds and let her walk around where she'll be and get use to it. Take which ever other cows that you are going to show with you too.

i would strongly advise caution w calf calm. got a heifer from a couple guys that used it on her at a show, she was great at home, BUT leave the barn and she turned into a nut job. guess they didn't use it correctly and she was never same. nice heifer too

I have a heifer just like that and she just won champion heifer at our national show and we won showmanship together. I sat out in her pen and talked to her all the time. I slowly got her to were I could walk up to her catch her and i would just pet her all over, and tie her up and brush her, and then we would go for a walk. She calmed down a lot over the course of the weeks. It took abut 3 -4 weeks of doing this. As an extra to help her trust me more, I would bring her the feed seperatly and talk to her while she was eating, brush and love on her. Now I just walk out in the field and she comes running to me. The only problem with this, is they became attached to one person. So I suggest the person showing her should do this. I hope this helps.
