Is this a bad lice year or what?!

We have been battling lice all winter, and I have heard other Texans dealing with the same problem.  I broke down today and sheared all our cows and poured them.  I don't know if it was the extreme dry winter, or the mild temperatures, but it sure seems to be worse than any other year I've dealt with.

Anybody else having this problem?  Also, how many of you out there shear your cows each spring.  We have one CTR Success cow that does not shed her winter coat.  Great for producing hairy calves, bad for a long Texas summer.

We have had the same problems and pour on didn't seam to work so when Brian was
home on spring break he slicked them down and poured them again.Talked around
and others were complaining about the same .The cows seam to lose conditioning quicker
than normal this year but are already gaining alittle now after the clip and pour.

They've been really bad around here.  Seems like all we do is pour.    I've heard this from our neighbors too. 

We have had the same problem, we've poured earlier than usual this year.  Wonder if the really cold weather was harder than usual on their hides??  Dry

We poured twice and then powdered and finally I broke down and got the injectiable. The injections cleared it up. It has taken us all winter to get rid of them boogers.

on the show heifers we put the torch to them then clipped the heads /necks
out then poured again.We figured a little fire might help kill the bugs.

I'm in south Texas and we've been battling lice since mid February. We've sprayed twice and an injectable dewormer. May have to spray again, we'll see.

We had it pretty bad around here.

All the heifers (they are gone now) at the school got it thankfully didnt catch to the steers! One treatment killed it though I have no clue what was used

It's been really bad here, too.  We've poured several times, and the cows look like they've never been treated.  Had a really tough time keeping them under control on the show steers, even.

Well now I feel kind of stupid.  I called all of our steer buyers to tell them we likely sent lice to their places and apologize.  We've had them bad since we got a heifer back from Denver. 

  Here's my question, have there been any good studies done as to whether the "bugs" are getting mectin resistant? We did pour our cows twice this winter instead of once. Are the companies diluting the product to make more money?

Sure makes you wonder if they are getting resistant.      I think our cydectin attracted them.    My daughter's best heifer was the worst victim too.    Since then, we've poured with ivermectrin twice and keeping fingers crossed that we've got them under control.  I think we'll pour with another product right before go to grass.   

Last year, we used cydectin on the show calves and got along fine.    I am extremely disappointed with it over the winter, and will probably go back to alternating products.  Any ideas?

We pour our show calves once a month.  Either Cydectin or sometimes we use Cylence just for lice.  Pasture cattle just get sprayed.  We've got lice bad in one  pasture - the bull in there looks like he has the mange right now.

Stierwalt uses a capfull of Tactic in a 5 gal. bucket once a week along with some Mane & Tail after a wash & rinse job. Brent

I too seem to be having a problem.  Since we haven't experienced this issue before, I could use a little info.  We poured Cydectin two weeks ago with almost no results, of course on our best heifer. 
How soon is too soon to treat with another product?  I am under the assumption that Cydectin kills lice and eggs.  Is This correct?  If not, is there a product that does kill both?

what is tactic? Poor it in the bucket and do what with it?

tic tac is product that is usually sold at farm stores and basically concentrated bug killer.  Comes in a white and blue tin (about a 2 quart size).  It works very well and a little dab'l do ya.  As others have posted a cap full in a 5 gallon bucket of water will do the trick.  It is very strong smelling and don't get to close to it.

after you mix it in the 5 gal bucket, do you spray it on them. Will it hurt thier hide or hair?
