Jackpot season is upon us....the price of fuel is killing us!!!  I would like to poll what the average entry fee is.  Went to one this weekend where the cost was $5 per head per class.  Will go to a big show on Memorial day that is $25 per entry.

What is it like in your neck of the woods?

the Clark County show was $45 for one show & they ran 2 rings so it would have been $90 for just one animal. Outrageous in my opinion. I've talked to some people from Ohio that aren't making the trip to Jr Natl's because of fuel prices.

The show we went to this weekend was 2 rings for 50 plus 10 per head bedding and 15 per head late entry fee.  Our entries for Maine and Chi Jr. National's costs 995, thank goodness we don't have fuel and motel on top of that!

We went to one a couple weeks ago that was $20 - up from the previous year's $11.  Late entry price was double.

Last weekend's show - preentry was $11 - late entry was $16.

With the cost of show fees going up one would think the judging would be better. I heard the Sunflower Classic judging left something to be desired. That coming from someone who never complains about it.

With the cost dynamic as it is now poor judging will kill a show faster, possibly in a year, than ever before. I know a shows past reputation will make me think twice before I invest the money to attend a show or not.

Could the day of the jackpot be over?

Went to MSU Block and Bridle in Springfield Mo this past Sunday and the entry fees and sundry expenses for four head was $170.00.  We paid the late fee because we weren't sure if we could get away.  This is usually a  pretty popular show however the numbers really seemed to be down from last year.  I attribute this to several things  First the cost of traveling, but mostly I think that this was the first week that it has been dry enough for everyone to be in the fields and they are racing to get their corn in so they can start on beans.  By this time of year alot of the steers are already in coolers and those steers won't come out again until the Ozark Empire Fair and our state fair. Its any where from 15 to 50 here per class/head.  Then you can add 10 or even double that for late fees.  Bad judging makes me think twice about repeating any horse or cattle show or (yes) a rodeo queen competition!
