JJC Wild Side *x4045349 is DSC.  I'll post more DS testing results in a few days.  Our other DSC is a bull calf we'd hoped to retain by Wild Side.  Study his pedigree--is there another possible source besides Duke?

Here's another that traces to Improver--GS MR. ELLIOTT I82.  Are there any more?  It certainly will be good when all the AI bulls are tested and the list of carriers is published.

I talked to Montie at Natl Cattlemans Convention and he said he couldn't get Beever to send him a list of the bulls he had tested. I don't know if you have to sign a release saying it's ok to publish it or not?

I have forwarded my results to ASA and posted it on the Steerplanet DS thread. What they were planning to do is attach the results to pedigree search just as TH, Pha and DNA are. Yes, owners probably have to forward DS results. I would be all for starting a list here on Steerplanet? Thanks for sharing Dale... wildside looked really good in the video, it's great to see the longevity.

Improver appears several times in that pedigree, the gift that just keeps on giving.

I haven't been able to figure out how common this deformity is and how much the industry as a whole cares, or even knows about it for that matter.  I just don't hear many breeders talking about it.  Personally, I don't want any part of it.  I shipped a pretty good bull that sired deformed calves for a friend of mine that used him.  I had a real good bull purchased this winter, but had to put a stop to the deal when his DS test came back positive.  I haven't had a DS calf, knock on wood, but maybe I've been lucky since I have very little Improver in my cow herd.  Myabe I should just shut my eyes and not worry about it if the deformity just doesn't happen that much.

Karma has a funny way of biting you in the ass.  The Shorthorn cattle gods are still disgruntled for letting undocumented Irish cattle in the Shorthorn herd book- asterisk free at that!

There's always consequences for cheating.

Maybe you're right!  Maybe all the defects showing up in the Angus breed are the result of the widespread infusion of Holstein, Maine, Limousin, Chi, and anything else that was long and tall and "passed" blood type tests in the 70's.  Can you say "Sport?"  I wonder if all the Bootmaker influence has improved their milking ability?  I know it sure added some white spots on the underline and a few horns.

Is that Duke of Dublin? I can say that Ive seen alot of cattle that go back to Improver-and Guiness and Improver 57-Ive never seen anything bad that went back to Guiness-and he was clean-57th seemed to carry a pretty strong TH-But in all my years-along with Double Downs, Stuffs etc-Ive never had any cripples at all: and we have an Alden cow that gores back to Improver and Vision at least 5 times.-I did see a doubled Vision et that was: out of a full sib to KABA Rose: but she went back to LRN RU TA Leader with Improver on the bottom. Bottom line-I will still use Wildside-on a couple of very old big cows-they have no improver, and I like him: soundest best looking older bull Ive seen anywhere. O0

If you'd like to see what JJC Wild Side looked like when he was turned out with the cows last fall, look him up on youtube.  Mark T., thanks to you and others who enjoyed the video Clint made of Wild Side.  In the video you also get to see several Homeplace cows and calves.

I thought I read a post that said a DSC bred to a pha carrier tends to throw a severly defect calf is that true? If it is......maybe thats why the JPJ's....bred to clubbie pha carriers tended to get everyones attention. A regular DSC carrier x a DSC carrier equals a less deformed deal? Is the pha deal x ds equals a DS deformity true?
