JM Joe Davinci

I was just wondering if anyone know anything about him. He is a Cunia x K-Kim Mona Lisa 34L. I just got my SEK update sheet today and he really intrigues me.  Thanks for any info.

One of the best shorthorn club caf breeders of all time-Jeff Connell owns him-but there doesnt appear to be anything registered out of him-looks good-but might be too straight on rear wheels-tuff to tell from pics-I do not even remotely trust the bw genetics of his dam-this is gonna be one where you need to be there when they calve. O0

Thanks for the info Mark, I figured the BW could be a little inconsistent, do to the genetics. I just thought that it was neat to see a Cunia son with Vortec and Rodeo Drive without any Trump in the bloodlines. Seems to be a little old school genetics and I think that should really help the breed.

I would think that the cunia would moderate bwt,s a little bit. I suppose they could still be over 100# s?

He was a bull that I also noticed. Thought pretty good looking bull and a direct Cunia. The down side is that he is another Cunia and may carry his share of defects, ie. monkey mouth/parrot mouth.

I called Jeff Connell today and he said that the bull has manageable BW's, and said he doesn't recommend using him on heifers. He said the bull has alot of rib-shape, is super sound, and is really easy doing.

Jeffs word and description are on the money-if you have (modern) solutions-sonnies-or doubled up trumps-hes probably gonna throw 95-110 pound calves-which is not a huge deal for those kind of cows-I personally think hed work great on Angus deals O0

Old post, but does anyone have any calves out of him? Anyone used him on Angus cows for replacements?  :-\

collected he is now deceased broke his leg in Jeff's creek moderate birth weight on clubby cows and sound as a cat we will have about 20 this year

I will let you know.Classic case of not knowing what you got till its gone.Connell used him heavily for the last 3 years on his cows we took him back last summer to use on a big group of clubby type shorthorns. Jeff wanted to winter him at his place and use him one more time to bad he was injured last week and had to be put down so i am praying for some females they will start calving in 2 weeks so i will keep you posted!

Sorry for the loss of the bull, it is never one that you wouldn't mind losing.

thought I'd put a pic of a couple JD on here... 
1- heifer in the middle...  from Elbee 150G dam
2- K-Kim Vortec / T-Bone dam
3- also from a Elbee 150G dam.  Atleast 3/4 sib to heifer above, I don't think it's a full sister- have to do some checking.

Have a few more calves from JD.

My take:  The JD calves are pretty leggy and late maturing compared to my ideal.  By the time you turn bulls in- they'll be pretty dang good.  We had one bull calf, prob half dozen heifers-- bull wasn't fit for the sale barn, heifers are all keepers.
