We move into our county fair this weekend, took the weight of the boys steer this morning, he is sitting at 1363 full, calf has done well on feed. He has gained 428 lbs in 132 days or 3.24 pounds ADG. that's  6/1 conversion not great but not bad. Hopefully I will have pictures when we get back. Calf is an Invincible, he is not extrem but well balanced and finished. Has decent hair for just rinsing and fans.
Have a great week.

Our state fair is in August, but rumor is that they are planning on moving to the first part of July. The biggest reason is attendance, each year schools start earlyer so they have seen a drop off in the last couple years. I know that the kids who showed at state fair last year from our town missed the first couple of days of school and we are one of the last school systems to start school.
The big problem is that it will over lap with the county fair so you will have to decide where you want to show because there will be no way to do both.

Our state fair here in Missouri is also in August. The steer show this year is the 18th and high school starts the 19th. Guess I wont be going to show.. But our county fair is even later, its not until the first week in Sept. Its usually pretty good weather, so I like it later.

I live in Pennsylvania, we have a huge farm show complex so all of our animals are indoors. But there normally snow on the ground to running from the showers inside to the camper is quite a trip. One year we went to the tie outs to get our steers in and they had an inch of ice on there backs, talk about your ticked of steers. Anyways its called the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Well the fair is over, son had his best fair ever. His steer won the 4-H division and finished 3rd over all. He won the Senior Division Beef Showmanship.
My Son does not usually make the top 5 let allone win Showmanship. Judge liked his calm, easy manner and how his steer was right everytime he looked at them. Does not hurt when you have a calf that is not heavy headed naturally and lands with his feet in the right place everytime.

will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

Sons steer looked real good, he was just not going to beet the steer from the FFA division, steer did not belong at our county fair or any county fair, judge stated that it belong in Denver, KC, Louisville or some place in that forum. I believe they took video for the FFA program that airs on RFD TV it should air later this month check it out.

Ha! Yeah. Usually what gets grand at our fair goes on to be breed champ, res. breed champ, or an easy class winner at State fair. And then our breed champs win their classes pretty easy at big shows and State.
