She has been weaned 2 weeks.  She is out of a AFSl Dividends Dandy daughter and Elbee Throwback.  We have been very pleased with the way the Throwbacks came off of the cows.  It has been over a 100 degrees almost everyday since she was weaned.  We have been very blessed to have gotten some rain from Issac last week.  Amazing how quickly grass will try and green up.

We have collected him.  We had a bull calf born this morning out of a free bird first calf heifer.  He weighed 62# and was up going in a matter of minutes.  I snapped a picture with my phone.  I have been really happy with the calves out of Throwback.

He was 7 months old in the picture.  We put him on cows when he was 13 months and he has been on cows ever since.  I have a good idea what the calves weigh but have not put them across a scale.  I will say all of my weaning weight are going to be lower this year.  No creep and the hotest dryest summer on record here have affected calf growth.  I will say that his calves have performed right with all of my other calves including the commercial herd.  His first calf crop has an average birth weight of 74 lbs and I am not sure he will have a calf weigh 70 lbs born this fall.  I know the heat has dramatically reduced the birth weight of my fall calves.  So far this fall his heaviest has been 63lbs.  It is amazing to tag a 60 pound calf then two minutes later tag a 89 pound calf.  After tagging the little one I looked at the other calf and thought he was going to weigh over 100 but that is why we weigh them.

If you haven't collected him you should be looks really useful with a good pedigree and red color. He should be easily marketable.

We have a limited amount of semen but right now we are not going to sell any untill we get him collected again.  After his first calf crop i know he will lower birth weights and add rib and body to the calves.  I bred him to a group of 3/4 shorthorn 1/4 red angus heifers and the heifers out of that mating look like they are going to be real ground sows.

Nice bull. I have always liked the Gizmos. Nice to see something bred the same way. Keep posting updates on the calves and when semen may be available.

I agree with everyone else, I think his semen would be pretty marketable. I would probably be interested if you are going to sell any.

We have had 18 calves sired by Throwback so far and have an average birth weight of 72.47 pounds.  I do not think that is a large enough number to truly call him a sleep at night calving ease bull, but I think he is heading in that direction.  The added plus is his calves coming off cows look very good.  I think we could sell a limited amount and may do so at some point this fall.  Last year we sold some at a silent auction with all of the proceeds going to the states junior association.  I think we may do that again if anyone is interested.
