American royal just ruined the best part of the show. That was coolest thing I've ever seen.

From the photos, I thought Cody's calf looked the part. Sometimes the judge just doesn't find what he's looking for immediately.

The Rodeo wasn't going on in Kemper this year at the same time as the steer show.

They said they didn't have the rodeo Saturday night b/c of Halloween. I didn't get the feel that it will be that way forever, just this year b/c of how into that holiday the town of Kansas City gets.
Congrats Brock:)

On Lautners web sight it says that 11 of the 12 class winners at the American Royal  were sired byHeat Wave/Heat Wave Clones.  Anyone know what the 1 that wasn't sired by HW was?  I know Heat Wave is popular, but it surprised me that many class winners were by HW.

That is really no suprise at all. It happens alot really.Has for several years. The same can be said about Full Flush,it used to happen alot. Most of his competition was from his daddy, and later from his sons.

i wonder sometimes if it isn't so much that heatwave makes the type of steers we are looking for but that we look for the heatwave type of steers...

just wondering.

You could be right.  If you just look at Lautner's bull listings he has 114 bulls if I counted right.  With that many bulls to choose from/breed to you would think that there would be some sired by another bull, even if it was just a HW son.  I guess that I am easily amazed sometimes! ;D

yeah and i think sunseeker may end up being a better bull if he is able to sire showsteers and heifers that produce like who daughters.

i personally dont like sunseeker. there are good babies but end up being crippled in the end.. yes there has been a couple hit big.
but theres been a whole lot more calves than just those two.
i dont think sunseeker will ever be as good as heat wave or sire as many champions.

yeah, i understand. most of the sunseekers i have seen have the look to them. if they have the look then you can breed for soundness easier.

i think alot of heatwave calves also sell a little higher just because of the sire, not that it doesn't happen to any other bull's offspring thoough.

I understand the one class winner that wasn't a Heatwave .....was a Sunseeker
