How do you keep a halter on a calf who has learned how to slip/rub it off.  She's pretty fast about it too.  We've tried tying twine to the cheeks and under her jaw but she can slip even that off.  The only way we can keep her tied is with a neck rope.  Otherwise she is a very gentle heifer, just can't keep the halter on her.

Yes it can be a major pain once they figure it out , best probably to leave it off. Put it on when its time to work , I think that's better than them stepping on the rope constantly pulling their head down anyway ! Kinda want the head up so its almost a negative to leave it on in my opinion. To each their own though.

Thanks ALtsimmy!  She only has halter on when she is tied up and it doesn't matter if she is tied with her head up or down, she can slip that halter is just seconds.  She is fast.

Try putting two halters on her, one the way you normally would and the other on the show side...

sometimes there isn't a fix other than a neck rope...G-Luck

Tie a knot in the rope halter just a few inches from their nose.  You can use it for gripping and they won't be able to work the rope off their nose because there isn't enough slack. You will still be able to take it off by slipping it off their ears first.

Our daughter's cow that we show everywhere does it, in SECONDS! She would just take her left ear, give it a little rub and it was off! Twine tied between the threads of both sides right behind the ear, really TIGHT, would keep it on, but it was a pain every time we needed to take her halter off to put on her show halter! So we got to a point where we just lead her around with a neck tie, and even hauled with a neck tie only. We showed her for four years, lots of miles, so you just have to learn how to expect them to rub it off and have a back up plan...

A nylon cow halter, properly sized and cinched, will not come off.

You could possibly use a rope halter under or over this with cable ties on the nylon halter.

Good luck to you!

We added 2 quick links and a curb chain.  Worked like a charm!
