I will be cheering for I want revenge.  I've known the trainer Jeff Mullins since I was a kid.  He is a really good guy.  I agree though Dunkirk will make it interesting.

Pioneerof the Nile  Bob Baffert is a great trainer.  His horse will be ready for the challenge

He has heat on his ankle and it is tender to flex.  It's also going to be a sloppy track and the trainer and owner are not willing to take a chance on a serious injury.  Very noble call to give up a run for the roses ( especially when your the favorite) to do what is better for the horse's health and safety.

Calvin Boreal had a great ride.  He got everything he could out of that horse.  I don't think Mind that Bird would have won with a different jockey.

You guys have missed the two most impressive parts of this great story.
One - "Mind that Bird" was TRAILERED all the way from New Mexico to Kentucky, as they couldn't afford to fly him there.
Two - "Mind that Bird" was bought for a meager $9500. Which is pennies in the race horse world.

I couldn't be happier for the two-time winner jockey, the first time winner trainer, and the first time winner owners.

You could really compare this to the show cattle world where the one calf family shows up with a heifer they bought from a neighbor, that they pulled in with a old trailer and old farm truck that is paid for, and quietly kicks everyone's butt!  Ya gotta love it!!

I bet there was more beer than champagne in that barn (do you think some of those people know what beer is??)

I heard that he was purchased for $9500 yesterday, too!!  Although, this morning the Anchorage Daily News is reporting that owner Mark Allen paid $400,000 for him with money his father, Bill Allen, got from the sale of VECO Corp.  Bill Allen was found guilty of bribing Alaska politicians(Mark was supposedly involved too) and was an integral part in the corruption trial of former Alaska senator, Ted Stevens.  Interesting turn of events if its true!!
