Show Heifer the media has blown this way out of proportion.  Chip stalls next to my dad in Sunland.  His wreck was right in front of my dad's trailor.  They could have flown him if the wanted to , but they chose  to go on a "ROAD TRIP"  If you knew these guys , you would understand. They are kind of some wild rednecks.    The colt was bought as a yearling for 9500 dollars as a yearling.  Chip and Mark went and bought him in Canada for 400,000.  They brought him down to Sunland and ran him twice. He didn't even get warm either time.  Everyone was shocked when they headed towards Kentucky.  I guess that goes to show that New Mexico and Texas racing is as tough as it gets.

Looks like the Bird is gonna run at the Preakness, but it looks like Pioneer is gonna be the favorite....any thoughts?

The thought I have is that I REALLY wish I had made my $5 bet on Mine That Bird a Win Place or Show instead of just a show bet.  Still won $129 though.

I think if Calvin rides him again in the Preakness he could have a shot if he kicks earlier.  He still wasn't leading at the 16th pole in the Derby.

I think its safe to say that the other jockeys will probably not leave a gap on the rail in the Preakness if they can help it.  If "The Bird" is going to win he'll most likely have to go out and around unless Calvin has a magic wand.  Should be a good race--a little shorter in length so it could get a little interesting around the final turn.

Finally got to see a video of the race.  He is pretty lucky in that he found a hole to get thru.  I'd agree that he probably won't find that opening again.  I wonder how he'll run on a fast track.
