Kentucky Derby

My mom and me rasied both for a while. Now we just have quarter horses. We only have 2 mares left. We can't aford to do both show cattle and race horses.

Turbo is doing just great, sent you some more pictures (I'm worse than a new mom!).  I had to take them to vet to start this whole breeding process all over again, we have a good follicle developing so I had to leave them there.  Now let's just hope that she holds on to it until the semen gets here, the only ship MWF and we were too late to order today so hopefully she'll hang on until Thursday.  You know I look at some cattle names and I get so confused with all the numbers and letters.  I can look at a horses name and pretty much guess bloodlines (running horses are the ones I know).  So I guess it's all what you're used to  ;D
Are you talking about the horse that they DQ'd in Rolex?  A woman I work with watched it all and she sent me an article this morning about a horse that had to be euthanized not sure if it's the same one or not. 
Wouldn't use the clone because personally I think he's a freak, don't take that  in a bad way.  Any horse that can withstand hauling 11 years or so hauling like you do when you rodeo much less winning that many world titles is a freak of nature.  He had a full brother and he didn't do much.  Nothing against his pedigree, but he is about the only one produced from those horses in his background.  I'm guessing that the stud fee is going to be pretty high as well, so if I'm going to spend 5K or more on a stud fee, I want the stallion to be a proven producer or be able to go to the track.  It's all pretty much a gamble anyway but I just try to get the best odds I can.  Just my opinion of course and I'm sure that there will be plenty of people breed to him. 

SCG-so are you still racing or just raising race colts?  Little Turbo is our first colt, should be able to run, I guess we'll just wait and see.  I'm learning quite a lot about breeding and foaling and if I could afford it I think I'd just buy yearlings (not that I don't adore my little one), but it keeps me pretty busy and I only have one mare, don't know how people do it with more than one  (lol)

We are just raising colts now. We sale them at the new Mexico bred sale (same weekend as the All American time trails) and at the all American sale labor day weekend. I love horse racing and one of these days I want to keep a colt or 2 and run them myself. We used to foal out about 15 mares a year, we started to let the breeding farm do it, after my gelding died ( he could tell when we were going to have a baby that day or night) he never missed lol. All we would have to do is look out and if he was a sleep there was nothing going on that night, if he was pacing and acting like he was 2 again we were going to have a baby. The funny thing about scamper is he was bought for a cow horse for a feed lot and she was the only person that could ride him he would buck everybody off. So he really doesn't have it in his jeans at all.

So, how did everyone like the big finish in yesterday's race?  It looked like the winner had that final move planned all along!! 8)

If that jockey wouldn't have looked back he wouldn't have cought him in the end. But I thought curlin would win the durby. It was one of the best races I've seen.
