If I had a cow or hfr worth that much, I would...........not have show jockeys, I would have secret service like security on her.

The AI tech that does all of our cows, also does dairy cows year around. He told us that some of the dairy bulls semen, can run over $500.00 per straw. He said there are times he has $25,000.00 worth of dairy semen in his tanks.

That cow was born and bred about 20 miles from my place.  I think she had a 3 week old daughter sell this summer for 24000 and a yearling daughter for 26000 at the same sale.  A confirmed heifer pregnancy daughter of her sold for 45000 last Thursday at the Toronto Royal.

It's been a big deal in our local media.

Here is the link to where she bred, born, and raised, http://www.eastsideholsteins.com/

I thought of two things watching the video.... Did you notice that the owner (halter holder) was allowing children and people to pet her? I think that is awsome. I have seen many, many beef people chase people away from their animals afraid they might "mess up the hair". A missed opportunity to educate the majority of people. Shame.
My second thought was CLONE coming soon!

Actually a third thought also came: Wow she is skinny. I don't know squat about dairy cattle!!!!

I heard today that since this cow was sold the new owners have contracted to sell over 3 million dollars worth of embryos out of her.  Starts to make her look pretty cheap.

This cow didn't actually sell for 1.2 million dollars.  I was at the royal and the bidding stopped around 170,000.  Then the buyer gave the nod to someone to bid up the cow to make it look like she sold for more than she actually did.  Very common trick in the dairy show business to make their cows and calves seem more impressive.  I would be EXTREMELY surprised if any more than 200,000 changed hands when all was said and done.  And this isn't the first time that this has happened in the dairy business.  KHW Regiment Apple-Red ET "sold" for 1,000,000 but i know the girl that they paid to bid it up and she started in at about 165,000.  That kind of cash is still impressive, but its nowhere near the million bucks you all are talking about.

It doesnt just go on in the dairy business, I've seen it happen all the time in the beef business.

Believe me I know what you mean.  I've been to beef sales that a calf will sell before the sale for 1500 private treaty and then sell in the sale for 12000 just so they can say they sold a 12000 dollar calf.
