Well, I got to thinking today that life is just too short not to enjoy it. Celebrating my sister's big decade old party kinda made me think a little. I love running pure Angus and getting LimFlex calves, and I have a bright future in becoming a producer of both. However, I like a little color in my commercial cattle, and we also have mulled over breeding a couple "showy" calves and perhaps still home raising them versus spending a pile on champions. I have reminded myself time and again about how stupid that would be and how the calves would have ZERO worth in the programs I am involved with. However, I am only considering two or three head to do this with. I have a couple shorty looking cows that have milk and guts but need muscle and style. I want a little input on bulls that aren't necessarily shorties but have either light roan or white with power and style. Just looking for calves that'll be good to look at and decent to show.
Thanks, MYT

Just say no.
Just say no.
Just say no.

And if you just can't do that..... Jakes Proud Jazz. Clean genetics, not a throw away born. (Plus I have experience with him on your type of cows.)

Just say no.

Good to hear you're finally ready to take a walk on the wild side!!  I know those who think they're purists won't agree, but some of us think plain black is just boring!  Ha, Ha!!  Actually,  good cattle are good cattle no matter what their color--unfortunately a lot of people are just  colorblind.  I have to admit the black ones are easier to fit--but I personally like them with a little chrome.
Hired Man is throwing some really neat looking black & whites as well.

I agree oakbar.... good cattle are just good cattle regardless of color or breed.

Thanks guys! Well, Dad was against it for a while and told me I was nuts. Then, the other day he started in about how nice of a base those Lim-Flex heifers would make for a clubby bull. In any case, I can't A.I. those till next summer, and same goes with my cows. I do like the looks of hired man, and might give him a try on my mature cows. However, I have kinda gotten out of the loop on bulls that are calving ease. I know we've sworn by OCC Homer for heifers, and it has worked. He does throw some good calves, don't get me wrong, but suppose I want some color ASAP. Would Hired Man still be OK? Should I contact some breeders? All I know for sure is that JPJ might work. Thanks.

Just sayin. Hi-View's Red Diamond.  Red, Polled, low BW (legit), hair (shucked body hair in the summer though), thickness, style.  Not saying he's perfect, but he's a heck of a lot better than almost all of those "clubby" bulls out on pasture.

Hey there OFS! Long time, no "see". I haven't let your bull out of my mind yet. He's out of Ace of Diamonds, right? What was his BW if you don't mind? I have a couple cows in mind for him. They're already roan, and I might get some cool blue or red roans from that cross.

No, he's a half sib to Ace of Diamonds, by the same sire (Wernacres Ace High) He is out of a first calf Sonny heifer that did a great job raising him.  His REAL birthweight was 85.  We'll have a couple early calves so you will be able to see what the calves look like before you use him.  We are very confident in him, even breeding my Sonny donor cow to him this year. He is keeping his condition better on grass than any other yearling bull we've ever had, and he still has a really cool look slicked out on pasture.  I can send you new pics of him after state fair I imagine.

Ok, I can post pasture pics after I get back from state fair, but he's not going to look like a show bull, just to warn you.  Keep in mind, he IS a yearling. He will look like his old shaggy, fat self for NAILE though haha!
