We have several Lutton cow and hiefers due to Dark Horse for the fall.  Has anyone had any, or have heard any reports on the Dark Horse calves?

I have one coming here soon so I will let you know soon. But right now I plan to use him this spring. Showing a paternal sister to him now and she's plenty nice

I have had 4 calves so far. 2 heifers are tremendous and look to have show ring potential out of a freedom and a 5175 cow.  A bull out of a rightime cow and a heifer out of another freedom cow are good.  They come easy, have bone & volume, and are zipper fronted.

We only had one this year out of a PB simmental Lucky Break cow. Calf came about 70lbs, jet black cool haired. Ill second the zipper fronted thing and ad that she had a tremendous hip on her for being so little, definately show ring potential. Ill try and ad a pic later. I bought 20 more units this year, I think as the calves start growing a little more, so will his popularity.

Is he known as a calving ease bull?nothing i have read says anything about that

According to cattlevisions he has a CED of 1 and a BW of 3.8  ----  If those numbers are correct I think I would steer clear using him on heifers.

I would not use him on heifers based off our experience and talking with others.  We had 2 bull calves out of big cows...both cows went a week overdue and the calves were both about 95 lbs each.  No problems having them and didn't have to assist.  They are pretty stout and have some bone, so would shy away from being a heifer bull.  If the mud ever dries up enough here, I can hopefully get some pictures of the bull calves.  They are stout, correct made with a nice hip and cool front.  They look like they will have some grow to them and they are filling out nicely.  That's our experience so far on a limited number of Dark Horse calves!!  ;D

Ended up that the cow I breed to Darkhorse had a nice heifer calf so i'm told haven't seen it yet cause its at my partners house but if he says she nice she most be good but shes just a few days old so will see in a month or so. I plan to order semen out of him for sure now. The cow I breed him to is a Freedom we won our state fair with a few years back.
