We are old enough now that they were playing Sweet home Alabama on the country station here the other day,as a classic country song!Compared to some "new" country it probably is pretty country .

Don't be so sure about that . Every other song on the country stations around here is that Kid Rock song.It has riffs from Sweet home Alabama and Werewolves of London in it There ain't nothin new I guess.

That Kid Rock song isn't country either...and I really don't care for it to be truthful.  The only country I like is stuff from George Strait, Chris LeDoux, and Willie Nelson...I mean I like certain songs now and then, but those are my favorites....if I have to listen to country that is.

Gravemakers and Gunslingers by Coheed and Cambria

Four Winds by Bright Eyes (not conventional country, but this song sounds country to me)

If these aren't different than mainstream, I don't know what is.

What about Tom Petty, John Mellencamp or Bryan Adams for rock.  Sorry lots probably dont know John Mellencamp, but he sounds just like Tom to me, and I do really like all of his songs.  These three are definately NOT on hit wonders.  Its more like, find one song that wasnt a hit!

I love ACDC.  All of my show calves are exposed to ACDC at an early age!

Another vote for Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd) on the rock side.  Stranglehold (Ted Nugent) would be my choice if you don't think the first one's "rock" enough.

I've gotta go with He Stopped Lovin' Her Today (George Jones) for country.

Lots of people don't know Mellencamp?  ???

I would have to second "Pancho and Lefty" or The Highway Men for country. Tom Petty, John Cougar Mellencamp are in the same class but' I wouldn't put Bryan Adams in there. I love watching Forrest Gump dancing to "Sweet Home Alabama".
