This is a purebred angus cow that I would like to flush to a clubby bull. Not looking for those "freaky" steers, just good solid calves that will compete and could also be replacements. We don't have as much selection in Canada, but some bulls I was thinking of were Sunseeker, Tyson, Jigsaw, Gus and maybe monopoly. Heatwave and his sons scare this angus breeder but how is monopoly calving?

Highliner or wait till we hopefully get Walks Alone up here next spring. Even though they are not proven those two are a couple of bulls that i would be willing to take a chance on, i know i am gonna flush a charolais x red angus cow to Walks Alone as soon as semen gets up here.

Monopoly is out of an angus cow, so its up to you if thats what you want to do, most people wont do it. I could see a heifer looking really good out of those two though!

I see you are from Canada so i assume you are using the Semex available bulls same as me,i would try JIGSAW on that cow because he is defect free, pedigree should provide some maternal, and he looks cool in his video on cattle.com.

If she were mine i'd breed her to Carnac if available to you. He is a HW son but not as much a problem calving as his sire. I've heard Monopoly is not working on angus cows. if you are considering a shorthorn, I'd try double vision.

From my experience, Irish Whiskey seems to make some great females when mated with Angus cows. 3C Macho and Amazon from the Simmi side of things would also work for replacements. Clubby- well you can't go wrong with Who on this one or Hannibal. She has enough guts to take Hannibal.
If it were me and you don't mind PHC, Irish Whiskey could make for interesting combo. I did see a great steer this eye out of Irish Whiskey.

First thought - Gigolo Joe.  Jigsaw might work, have heard the same thing about Monopoly on angus cows.  If looking at getting replacements might I suggest All About You,  I really like them as cows.  Also like the suggestion of WMW, I'd really agree with Dr.Who but it ain't available anymore.

I own half of a shorthorn bull that will give you that extra muscle shape and thickness that you are looking for in the showring and in the pasture. We have used him on some black cows and the calves are most impressive.  He is a Double Vision grandson that wont let you down. TF Shooter is his name, semen is available through cattle visions or you can contact me and i can get it to you.

Thanks for the replies.

I have found that WMW is very inconsistent in the calves I have seen. I think he is very hard to find semen on up here as well.

Sunseeker and Jigsaw were recommended by the semen salesmen. Eye Candy was another one I am thinking of but think he might downsize too much. How many calves does he have on the ground?

I'm not really looking for a shorthorn, just really like the look and color of Gus. Sorry Hofstatter!

If your looking for a good solid competitive calf and not necessarily a freak,  I think Sunseeker will do everything your asking for, IMO!  Ive heard of some very nice calves out of common cows!  Good Luck

If you want clubby replacements, I would use one of those hairy Lautner bulls without the TH or PHA. That Highlander bull looks interesting and would give you some outcross genetics. Just a thought.

I agree with OH B on this one, all of our Angus cows that are built that way we went with Irish Whiskey, he isn't going to throw the freaks, but he will throw phenominal replacements, we ended up with all bulls, but there isn't a bad one in the group.  From the list you have given I would go with Sunseeker, for clubby, don't know what kind of replacements you'll get there, Gus could be an interesting combo on her also.

Am I the only one who thinks Sunseeker calves are structure wrecks?  Maybe just the ones I've seen.  I would consider WAG Next Step or Carnac if you want extreme power.

i bought two sunseeker calves out of  unreg. purebred angus cows this spring and love both calves. the steer should be a super easy feeder who is correct in his structure and has great lines. he is adequately stout considering he is 1/2 angus but he is great fronted. the heifer is a future ground sow! tons of rib, great depth of body along with sound feet and legs and a good profile. both calves are getting better every day and if i dont sell the heifer i wouldnt hesitate for a second to stick her in the replacement pen. the place where i got them had other sunseeker x angus cross calves and there wasnt a throw away calf in the group, all sound and looked to be good fat steer prospects. hope it helps

Sunseeker throws great marketable calves. However only two that I know of ever done any winning as fats at a major show. Don't know what the breeding on your Angus cows are,but I would use Carnac,Tycoon,Friction for clubbies, I would use Irish Whiskey, Ali, for replacements or steers [maine] I would use,DJ Sallute,3 C Macho,Dream On or the young bull Chopper. It's really six of one and a half dozen of the other crap shoot. Most of the bulls I mentioned will give you maternal strength for replacements, except for the mentioned clubby bulls.
