R A Bulls - Majoe League - Pretty inconsistant. I saw 6 flushmate sisters that ranged from frame score 4 to frame score 8, short and squatty to tall and thin. They were all out of a donor cow that had been flushed to several other bulls successfully and out of 11 Major League calves there was not a "good one" in the bunch. I've never seen one that has impressed me.
Lancer - Will moderate a Low Line and take it's hair with it.
All in all I think there are alot of better bulls in the Red breed to piock from. JMHO. RW

Yes, Lucky Dice has the spotter gene but can be used on non spotter cows which would include all Angus cows.  He makes a really nice cross on Angus.  The cow needs to have some milk in the pedigree for the mating to work.  The bulls out of dice are easy to sell--thick, attractive with good dispositions.

if they have the spotter gene it means they can throw white. I think he is homo black but can paint one up if bred to the wrong cow

The spotter gene is what makes many of the old style Simmentals look like Holsteins.  It is a recessive gene so an animal has to have two copies of the gene for it to be expressed or for the animal to be spotted.  Many modern day Simmentals may appear solid black or red but still have one gene for spotting.  So it is possible for two solid colored animals to have offspring that are spotted.  Since spotted calves are docked at the sale barn it is not a desirable trait.  Lucky Dice, Lucky Strike, Built Right are just a few of the black Simmental bulls that have the spotter gene.  As long as you use them on cows that do not have the spot gene then all is well.  Other genes influence white on the head, legs and belly.  The spotter gene only refers to white accross the sides or back.

Wouldn't it be nice if the ASA herdbook listed animals that carry the spotting gene. I do my best to avoid it.

I would agree with most of what was said about Lucky Dice...except for his temperment.  Many of the females I have seen sired by him have an attitude....some a BIG problem and don't stick around long at our place!

Five Star is a very heavily used Homer son out of a Night Man daughter. He has guaranteed calving ease bred into both sides of his pedigree. Five Star’s birth weight EPD is in the top one half of 1% of the Angus breed. His $EN value is in the top 20% of the Angus breed. Five Star’s daughters are the keeping kind. His sons averaged over $4500 in our 2008 Spring Bull Sale. Five Star is co-owned with the Flying S Ranch and Dallas Anderson.

This is taken from Kit Pharo's semen catalog. He is indeed PAR Five Star 203. Out of curiosity, what you planning on using him for? Plenty good bull. Here's his working clothes shot.

thanks myt..but I know this... but words are words...

looking for first hand experience on the bulls... from SP members

thanks for trying though..

Well, in that case, I've seen plenty of calves outta this bull. Maybe not incredibly thick ended, huge topped, or what not, but all solid, big ribbed, easy doing type calves. BTW, if you call up Kit and tell him what you're thinking, he'll be honest with ya. Done plenty of business with him on semen, and he's given me some very honest opinions of his bulls and wether or not he thought that they'd work. Nothing I can appreciate more than a straightforward man.

ditto that myt... The world needs more people like that...

We now have a FiveStar daughter- I wouldn't call  her the most powerful heifer in the world, but as far as correctness, body, and the likely ability to become a real good cow- I would slap on her.  I don't think she's going to be huge, but I don't think she's going to be as small as the other pharoe bulls listed on the site are breeding... I would say she'll hit 6 on the frame score chart--- of course she is 1/2 her mother!

Hope I didn't offend you, but more times that not- words in a semen promo catalog (or website) are just that -words!

I hear ya there. Sounds like your Five Star daughter matches up pretty well with what most Five Stars look like. Good luck.

at school, we have several five star daughters... out of 20 or so breds, they are as a group the best ones... also have some sired by Major League, Lancer, In Focus, and the old herd bull...  In Focus's are the worst- lancers are the smallest.  The old herd bull still making some of the best too!

Good to hear. Ya, I don't doubt that a herd bull is making good females. Just because they're at an A.I. stud doesn't mean they're any better.
