I am looking for a nice used newer Dodge Cummins. It's been a while since I've been in the market and have no clue where to begin looking. Anybody have any ideas? I'm in Indiana. Thanks

we will never again buy one-- they are simpily too heavy fronted for day to day use.  Can't beat them for pulling a trailor all summer long- but not for things like feeding, hunting, or farming...

We've got an '06 powerstroke and an '04 cummins that we bought new. would never get another powerstroke. have had way too many problems. The Dodge has over 200,00 on it and never had a problem. The Ford has only 50,000.

Jody makes a good point and that is why I also have a little Toyota 4X4 truck along with my 2008 Dodge cummins diesel 4X4 flatbed. I love my flatbed as I can put 2 large round bales on the flatbed if I want to take a couple large round bales. I use my Toyota truck for feeding as it is lite and easy on gas with a little 4 cylinder motor and it gets around great in the mud and snow here in Wyoming. But I bought my Dodge last year used and love it, pulls my gooseneck horse trailer and gooseneck flatbed easy and has alot of power in that 6.7 liter cummins diesel. I would say look around and don't jump on the 1st truck you find. I wanted a Dodge flatbed with 4 wheel drive and looked for about 4 to 5 months before I found the truck I wanted and it is a 4 door truck. I found trucks in Texas to be cheaper in price than around my area and saved alot of money flying to Texas and driving the truck back to Wyoming. I bought my truck from a dealer just outside of Dallas Texas and found it online, I put a deposit on it, flew to Texas, test drove it and had a mechanic look at it and then gave them the rest of the money from a certified check from my credit union and drove it home. Saved money buying it in Texas and got the truck I wanted. Bottom line is look for the truck you want for the price you are willing to pay, search the internet but watch for scammers and that's why I bought for a reputable dealer but still got a good deal compared to truck prices around Wyoming.

I am not sure if the new Dodge Diesels are the same but I have been very pleased with my 2001 Dodge Ram 3/4 with Cummings diesel engine.  It has over 200,000 miles and is still in daily use on the ranch for hauling hay and feed.

life in TX is so much different than fighting snow or mud 200+ days a year.

Dodge 1 ton 4X4. We use them everyday on the ranch one has 160k miles. I understand feeding cattle is different than a bunch of sheep,  Dodge has feed and hauled alot of cows here in east texas.

Ok Jody you are talking to someone that feeds alot of round bales during a winter to cattle. I am not talking about feeding a few sheep. Dont tell me about feeding cattle hay in Texas!
Jody my bale carrier fits on the back brings the front of the truck up. And yea I pull a real gooseneck made by Gooseneck here in town.

I'm  not doubting that the front end comes off the ground- that's obvious=- and not once did I say a Dodge can't pull a trailor.. I've worn out sets of tires in a summer on the show string using ours... But I did say- and stand behind every word-- that those heavy diesels aren't worth a crap offroad, in slop, in snow, or in deep mud--- especially  if they have average or slightly worn out tires on them.. And don't even talk about a dully in wet grass--

just curious: but does TX even have a winter?  My grandparents just called me from a short little vacation in TX- and they said that in parts of TX- they haven't even had a killing frost yet= have fall weeds 4' tall.

There is a point here in which we cannot feed hay with pickup trucks- and quite often you cannot feed hay unless you have a front wheel assist tractor with a front end loader- mud deep enough that cows get stuck.

For the record the cattle out number the sheep on this place- 300 cows: 40 sheep...  The sheep may be higher maintaining, but they sure don't eat less.

Jody again you are highjacking this topic just like you do all the other on here. Will not talk about the weather in Texas on  here the subject is about a trucks. I am sure you can come up with a worthless spread sheet to prove your point. My point  is Dodge Trucks have been good for our ranch. Mudd Snow  Hell or high water they carry the load and have stood up over time.  And was feeding cattle in a dodge before you were born.

I purchased an 05 duramax 3/4 ton from a well known Texas dealer off of eBay.  I bought it sight unseen but had so many pictures and can say that it was honestly represented( unlike a lot of cattle that I have bought).  Have had it for 2 years with no issues and will go this route again on our next purchase.

Which dealers did you 2 use in TX?  I'm also looking for a new truck, and have been looking at dealers on Ebay, and in TX.  Just curious who you guys used/felt comfortable with.  Feel free to PM me if you don't want to put it in the thread.

Thanks.

I went through a dealer called North Texas Truck Stop which is located in Mansfield Texas which is a suburb of Dallas Fort Worth area. They only deal in used trucks and trucks that are no older than 10 years old, below is their website. I had a great experience dealing with them. They put alot of trucks on ebay also.

They might have changed the 10 year old mark as I do see that they have some 2001 models on their website now but when I bought my truck they stated they only deal with newer trucks that were not older than 10 years old.

I also found that the trucks were cheaper in Texas and recently bought an F350 in Houston. Used frequent flyer miles for one way flight down to pick up. Trucks been great very happy with my purchase.

If you can afford it, I'd go with the duramax.  The dodge's quite frankly don't have reliable enough transmissions IMO and the Powerstrokes do tend to have a little bit of problems everywhere...

But then again, I am slightly bias....

farm bureau no longer has the dodge discount either-- atleast not in IL...  Farmers are switching from the Dodges that once outnumbered all others 3:1.. to fords and chevy's now...

Even our own family- which is 3 for 3 with Dodges...
