We are thinking of changing directions and going purebred shorthorn along with some of the clubbys we already have. My question is where will be the best oppurtunity to get some purebred eggs that will make some foundation females? Looking to produce good functional cattle with emphasis in producing show heifers. Also wouldn't mind adding some good producing cows if i could find a deal. Any leads? Located in Texas.

Thanks.

There is some selling in our TN Shorthorn Agribition sale this weekend.
We will also be selling some heifer embryo's out of B Good Dottie , dam of the show heifer of the year in 2013 in our production sale on April 23rd at Springlake Farms. We will also have some Myrtle Bo heifer eggs in that sale. Sullivan is putting some eggs in it also.

I'd say there are some good suggestions so far. I'd also suggest looking into the Schrag program. Our lead donor cow came to us as an embryo from Schrags.  We've got embryos from several of our donors that we would sell, including some out of the aforementioned Schrag produced female.

I also might have a couple of cows I'd sell, including a donor cow that has been a great producer for us.

Im gonna have to say that of all the breeders mentioned so far-Olson-FOR THE MONEY-will have the best potential genetics. They have some very good cattle and I would guess are not in a posistion where they really have to sell anything:which means good ones stay-and the quality goes up exponentially:and most likely without an overabundance of hoopla. I have some too that are from recent to familiar popular genetics-in the $200-250 range so very reasonable in terms of who the cattle are- One set is K-Kim Pleasure Pass (low Bw -if the genetics work SLEEPERS)on a Dunbeacon Venture dauhter of Matt Bigelows Denver winning Margie-(she ranks with maybe the top 4-5 Shorthorn females ive seen)  Solution on a Gottschalk Denver Division champ female, and 5 Milestone Sabres on a THICKER full sib to Erin Hartmans National Champ trump female-any females out of these genetics bred to Red Demand, Hot Commodity,or some of the other new CE functional cattle etc would be right there: with a little LESS LINEBREEDING and a little MORE GROW.;and @ $200-250-not $700-1000- O0

Our ET program has become a major part of our operation and 2015 was the first year that our frozen genetics resulted in more income for our farm than live cattle did. We sold 510 embryos to 9 countries in the past year. We have sent embryos to 12 countries in the past decade, including the first Canadian Shorthorn genetics to sell to Germany, Austria, and Costa Rica. Check out our website www.horseshoecreekfarms.com to see many of our donors. Our embryo inventory is lower than normal but we have a bunch of flushes presently being done and many more planned for the next few months. We have also got a few embryos stored in the US at Hawkeye Breeders in Iowa.
Right now, I have 7 flushes already sold to breeders in England and Ireland but we certainly will be flushing several other donors and we can custom design embryos to meet your needs.

Sorry, I'm not sure why it didn't go through. I have close to 20 DF Waco x CF DZ Fool 37 TPX embryos. These were made using 3 sexed heifer units and 1 conventional unit of DF Waco. I also have close to 20 CF Star Bucks x CF DZ Fool 37 TPX embryos using conventional semen. Then I have several other breedings that I would like to clear out of the tank. Email me at [email protected] or contact me on facebook at JT Moreland Farms LLC. The Fool 37 cow was very productive in producing embryos and a very productive cow for her genetics. I believe she is still in production with the people I sold her to and she is like 13 years old.

Have any Waco x any commercially oriented SH embryos?  When I saw him at Rasor's as a mature bull in 2012 he was one of the better shorthorn bulls I had seen.  Wasn't long after that they said he died.

I bought nollswood charming as a heifer calf from the noll family for $400, saved her from the sale barn.  I was 11 years old.  she had lucky charm when I was 15, didn't know what I had.  she made it to 17 years old, buried her on the farm with a cross to mark her grave, that cow paid a lot of bills.  Not just because I raised her, but I still think she was one of the best today.

She was one of the very early females that dominated when the club calf thing hit- But they were allways sound and allways had grow-certainley one of the alltime top 3 great Shorthorn females- Rose and the Margies and Cumberlands are there in the mix-but from those I saw-the Charms were the easiest keeping real cattle that would show.Years ago I bought 5-10 straws on a Stampede son of Charming from Jerry Lehman.I think he was the horned one-there were 2 as I remember. I just never got around to shipping etc, and I owed him and Dale Wernicke so many beers etc .just didnt worry about it.O0
