Should I try to keep it or comb it out? The more we comb, the more we lose. Winter coat just shedding?
I have heard a couple of different tactics,  What's yours?

Probably winter hair that is dead. It all needs to come out for new to grow. I would say keep combing!

Dead winter hair. I'd brush it out. Brushing also stimulates the hair growth. You could also rinse with cool water a few times a week to stimulate the hair.

Use a lava rock, it takes out the dead junk and leaves the living makes the coat look tons better and work much better than a brush.  :)

I agree, get it out, good hair wont grow until that dead winter hair is gone.  You cant hold a coat all year, old hair will die and new hair will need to grow at some point just the way it works.  Lava rock is same as a grill brick

I must have a vitamin def.    I guess I have had it for the last 5 years.    (lol)

Several years ago during one of the hottest springs till this year I sold a shortie steer to a texas customer.  He wanted his money back when his calf started loosing his hair.    It was his first time to feed a steer.

Known fact is that cattle will shed their hair sooner or later.  If the temperature is in the nineties it will be sooner.

What is a lava rock?

A Grill Brick.  Used to clean a grill.  You can buy them at a Restaurant Supply company.  They work great, but for maximum benefit, also rinse twice a day, and brush a minimum 30 minutes each time with a Rice Root brush.
