Lost our first yesterday.  Very horrific for us.  We lost the calf mid pull.   Had to perform a c-section to remove him.  The girls knew she was in labor as they left for school, so were eager to know as soon as school got out.  At the time, it looked like we'd lose the cow, too.  This was a tough life lesson for them.  Makes the two we had delivered unassisted in Jan even more precious.  The cow is holding her own for now.  Got up and walked at will within an hour of the c-section.  Please say a prayer that infection will stay far, far away.

Sorry for your loss.  It is never easy, but speaking from experience I think it is more difficult to swallow when you just have a few head.  So much planning goes into those little buggers and losing one is such a blow.  When it happened to us it was a learning experience that really changed some things for us.  If you can, use it as a teaching experience for your kids.  Better luck moving forward.

You are so right!  It has been a valuable lesson in so many ways.  Thanks for the well wishes!  Pressing on.
